Architecture and Construction word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this architecture and construction puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our career exploration and community helpers unit. The kids could name a few jobs like architect and builder, but they had no idea what words like blueprint, foundation, or permit meant when we talked about the many steps and roles involved in getting a building from an idea to a finished structure. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like architect, engineer, contractor, electrician, plumber, carpenter, blueprint, foundation, permit, inspector, and site manager. I also made sure to include "HVAC" and "green building" because they came up in our conversations about how modern buildings are designed to be sustainable and comfortable.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between an architect and an engineer or whether a contractor is the same as a builder. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a few short career videos. I added a couple simple hard hat, blueprint, and building drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one architecture or construction career from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
