Sports and Recreation Careers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this sports and recreation careers puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our career exploration unit. The kids could name a few jobs like athlete and coach, but they had no idea about the many other careers that make sports possible—like athletic trainer, referee, sports journalist, and even sports psychologist. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like athlete, coach, referee, trainer, sports medicine, journalist, commentator, general manager, and sports psychologist. I also made sure to include "scout" and "agent" because the kids were fascinated by how players get discovered and signed.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a scout and an agent are the same thing or whether a sports psychologist actually helps players win. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a few short career videos. I added a couple simple whistle, baseball cap, and microphone drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one sports career from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
