Farm to Table Food Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this farm to table food vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our health and food unit. The kids knew that food came from the grocery store, but they had no idea about all the steps it takes to get food from the farm to their plates. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like farm, plant, grow, harvest, pack, ship, store, market, grocery store, cook, and eat . I also included a few like "farmer" and "produce" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "harvest" (it's a tricky one) or whether a farmer is the same as a rancher (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a farm-to-table chart or a simple flowchart of the process nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the steps in order . I added a couple simple tractor, apple, and grocery cart drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw one step in the farm-to-table process on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
