Film and Video Careers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this film and video careers puzzle set for my 4th graders during our career exploration and media unit. The kids could name a few jobs like actor and director, but they had no idea about the many behind-the-scenes roles that make movies and shows happen—like cinematographer, gaffer, and editor—or what words like camera operator, sound engineer, and producer meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like director, producer, camera operator, sound engineer, editor, actor, screenwriter, production designer, and cinematographer. I also made sure to include "gaffer," "best boy," "script supervisor," and "assistant director" because the kids were fascinated by the fun job titles when we watched a video about film production.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between a director and a producer or whether a cinematographer is the same as a camera operator (they're not). The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a few short career videos. I added a couple simple clapperboard, camera, and film reel drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one film career from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
