Germs and How They Spread word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this germs puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our health unit. The kids knew germs could make you sick but had no idea what germs actually were or how they spread from person to person. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like germ, bacteria, virus, microbe, invisible, spread, cough, sneeze, touch, surface, hands, soap, water, sanitizer, mask, distance, fever, sick, immune, and prevent. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the germ vocabulary finally stick without causing panic.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether all germs are bad. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple germ cartoon and soap drawings but nothing too scary or busy.

Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name two ways to stop germs from spreading on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
