Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Students will identify the meaning of a chosen Greek or Latin root.
Students will generate four words that contain the root and define each one.
Students will design and illustrate a poster presenting the root, its meaning, and example words in an organized layout.
Teaching tips
Assign a different root to each student (jigsaw-style) so the class collectively reviews all 30 roots when posters are shared or displayed.
Use the included planning and brainstorming pages before students start the final poster, since the project builds directly from root selection to word list to layout sketch.
For students who struggle with drawing, allow them to cut and paste images from magazines instead, and have rulers available for the graffiti lettering.
Skills covered
Greek and Latin root analysis — students research a root's meaning and identify four words built from it, from a 30-root reference list.
Word derivation — students connect a shared root to multiple vocabulary words and explain each word's meaning.
Visual project design — students plan and execute a poster layout combining lettering, definitions, and illustrations.
