About This Product
One of my passions is creating educational content that really teaches, focuses on details, and honors children’s desire to learn deeply. While cartoon crafts are always fun, there is a time and place for real animals you feel like you could reach out and touch. I hope as you incorporate these animal crafts into your lessons, your students can feel connected to these animals on a deeper and more meaningful level. I have provided them in realistic color and black and white for your students to color so that you can choose which is best for any particular situation.

Follow a six-step illustrated sequence to turn a printed page into a wearable mask
Cut accurately along an outline and then cut out the interior eye holes as a separate step
Teaching tips
The mask pages suggest laminating for reuse; doing it before cutting keeps the masks intact through a whole group or a second year.
Reserve the eye holes for an adult with younger children — it is the one cut that starts inside the page rather than at the edge.
Split the printing between the male and female pages so both lions appear when the group wears the masks together.
Skills covered
Scissor control — students cut along the mask outline and then cut out the eye holes, a finer cut that starts inside the page.
Colouring — step 2 of the assembly sequence has students colour the mask before it is cut out and assembled.
Craft assembly — students punch holes on the indicated dots and tie string, ribbon or elastic through them to fit the mask to the head.

Questions teachers ask about this resource
Are the male and female lion masks different templates?
They are separate designs. Two pages are captioned "Male Lion Paper Mask" and two are captioned "Female Lion Paper Mask", so a group can be split between the two lions rather than everyone wearing the same face.
What holds the finished mask on a child's head?
String, ribbon or elastic threaded through punched holes. Step 5 punches holes on the indicated dots and step 6 ties the fastening onto the sides; the note on each mask page adds that staples work as well, and that the mask can be laminated first so it survives reuse.
