Product description

From the author

One of my passions is creating educational content that really teaches, focuses on details, and honors children’s desire to learn deeply. While cartoon crafts are always fun, there is a time and place for real animals you feel like you could reach out and touch. I hope as you incorporate these animal crafts into your lessons, your students can feel connected to these animals on a deeper and more meaningful level. I have provided them in realistic color and black and white for your students to color so that you can choose which is best for any particular situation.

If you are an art teacher looking for more art activities, here is a fun resource that your animal loving students will enjoy. This is a Penguin Paper Mask that any teacher can implement.

This simple craft printable is ready to print and assemble! It's provided in a realistic color option and a black and white coloring option. We hope you enjoy the fabulous art! It's so real you could reach out and pet it!

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Assemble a wearable penguin mask by following a six-step sequence (cut, color, punch, tie).

  • Identify a fact about Macaroni penguins: they are one of six crested penguin species, recognized by a feather crest atop the head.

Teaching tips

  • Laminate the mask before cutting if you want it reusable across classes or years.

  • Choose the color version for a ready-to-use mask, or the black-and-white version if you want students to color it themselves.

  • Punch holes at the marked dots and tie ribbon, string or elastic through them rather than stapling directly, so the mask can be resized to fit each student.

Skills covered

  • Fine-motor cutting practice — students carefully cut the mask outline and the eye holes as directed.

  • Craft assembly sequencing — students follow six numbered steps in order, from printing through tying the finished mask.

  • Animal fact recall — students learn that the Macaroni penguin is one of six crested penguin species, distinguished by a feather crest.
