Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students can name and correctly sequence all twelve months of the year.

  • Students can match each month to its corresponding season.

  • Students can write the full name of each month given its three-letter abbreviation.

Teaching tips

  • Use the month-reordering page (page 1) as a warm-up before the more open-ended days-of-month and weather pages, which ask students to recall information rather than sequence it.

  • Pair the season-matching page with a discussion of the students' own region's climate, since the printed season labels (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) may not match every location's actual weather.

  • Since no answer key is included, review the reordering and matching pages as a class or use them for independent practice rather than self-checked homework.

Skills covered

  • Month sequencing — students unscramble six sets of five shuffled months and arrange them in calendar order.

  • Month-season association — students match each of the twelve months to its corresponding season.

  • Abbreviation-to-full-word recall — students write the complete month name for each three-letter abbreviation.
