World Geography: Countries of Africa word search, scramble and crossword

I made this countries of Africa puzzle set for my 4th graders during our world geography unit. The kids could name Egypt and South Africa but had no idea about other African countries like Nigeria, Kenya, or Morocco. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan, Algeria, Congo, Tanzania, Angola, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, and Somalia. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the country names finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about which country has the most people. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple continent outline and safari animal drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one country and its capital on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
