Do you need a few new ideas for your grade 4-6 math unit on angles (acute, right, obtuse, straight, and reflex)? This one page handout could be a super addition to your unit planning! There are three quick and easy activities provided to add new ideas to your instruction and help those students who learn in different ways. 1) Kinaesthetic Angle Game: Everyone stands up. The teacher calls out a type of angle (acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex). Students use their arms to make that angle. Students can make up their own "angle dance routines" and teach them to their peers. 2) Angle Scavenger Hunt: Students make a table in their notebook with the five types of angles: acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex. They look around the classroom, the school, or outside and record examples of each type of angle in the environment. 3) Angle Exit Slip: Want to ensure your students are grasping the concepts of your angle unit and learning how to use a protractor accurately? Copy and give this quick assessment . Students must measure and classify two angles and draw three given angles. It only takes five minutes, but it can give you very helpful information about which students in your class might need some small group instruction to master these concepts. These five coding activities can be used by children as young as 8, as they start off incredibly simple and then become gradually more complex with the last activity providing some challenging coding even for high school students. To really stretch learning each activity comes with a number of exciting challenges that should be completed before moving on to the next activity . The activities and games help develop understanding of many programming concepts - for example sequences, selection, repetition, the use of variables and the use of functions and procedures. To provide even more support, five video tutorials have been produced. Each video tutorial links with one of the activities/games. This really is a fun and engaging way to introduce young people to coding. The programming language used is a visual language called Scratch. That is used in thousands of schools around the world. Ecological Succession – Lab Station Activity

This fully editable Lab Station on Ecological Succession is meant to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content. Each station not only offers a unique opportunity to test your students' knowledge (offer an opinion, answer questions based on a video or reading, draw, etc.), but also provides a fantastic learning opportunity where your kids are learning through assessment. Each station comes with a description card while some also contain more detailed instructions, a reading, questions to answer, etc. Students are equipped with a recording sheet (passport) to write their answers. There is almost no prep for you. Simply print the cards, lay them out around the room and you're all set. An answer key is also provided where applicable. This lab activity covers: - Primary Succession - Secondary Succession - The Role of Forest Fires in an Ecosystem - Pond Succession ---------------------------------------------- Bonus Activities: To ensure your students don’t have any downtime between stations, your lab also includes a 10-word word scramble and word search, both with an answer key. You can use them as part of their mark, as a bonus so it’s not mandatory, etc. However you choose to use it, it will ensure that your students are always busy and never idle.
