This AGE Word Sorting Activity is a great resource for your students to practice recognizing AGE words and pictures in isolation. This sorting activity includes three different sorts for students to categorize AGE family words in an engaging literacy center. Sorts Included in this Literacy Resource Sort words that are included in the AGE family from words that are not included in the AGE family. Sort pictures that represents words in the AGE family from pictures that represent words not in the AGE family. Sort between real and nonsense AGE words. The teacher can easily differentiate these sorting activities for students who need more or less support to be successful in completing these sorts. How to Use: The teacher can create a file folder sorting activity The teacher can add magnets to the picture pieces and create a cookie tray sorting activity The teacher can place the cards and mats in a box for a simple sorting activity To assemble file folder activities, position the two sorting mats on each side of a file folder. Use the word and image cards for sorting onto the mats. Adding hook and loop fasteners to both the cards and mats ensures the cards remain positioned once sorted. For the cookie tray sorting, attach magnets to each card's back. Lay the mats next to each other on the tray, and the magnets will secure the cards to the mats. These methods provide an interactive literacy station that will captivate your kindergartners and first graders as they learn and practice AGE family words. This method of organization helps to make sense of complex information and allows for easier comparisons and analysis. 1) Feature: Sorting items by feature involves grouping them according to their physical or observable attributes. For example, you could sort a collection of books by their color or size. In this activity - Things that are yellow 2) Function: Grouping items by function involves categorizing them based on what they do or how they are used. For example, you could sort kitchen appliances by their function, such as sorting blenders, mixers, and food processors into one group and toasters, ovens, and microwaves into another group. In this activity - things in the kitchen 3) Classification: Sorting items by classification involves grouping them based on their characteristics or attributes that are intrinsic to their nature . For example, you could sort animals by their things that with wings or things that have fur. In this activity things that we wear. By using these different methods of sorting or grouping, you can provide different perspectives or ways of understanding a set of items or concepts, which can be helpful in teaching and learning. Allow students to sort animals by their various features. What is Included: There are sorting card headers for each animal feature. There are sorting mats for each animal feature. There are six picture cards for each of the sets of sorting activities. The animal features included in this set include: No legs, two legs, four legs, more than 4 legs, animals with fur, animals with scales, animals with feathers, animals with wings, animals with tails, animals that can fly, animals that can swim, animals that live in groups, animals that live alone, animals with tusks, animals with horns, animals that jump, animals with hooves, animals that lay eggs, animals with claws, animals with shells, animals with spots, and animals with stripes. Each sorting mat includes a real life example of an animal that belongs in that animal group. All of the picture cards also include real photographs of each animal. What Questions are Asked: To use these, students will lay out either the header cards or the sorting mats. They will then sort the animal images beneath or on top of the correct sorting mat. When to Use: Science Center - The sorting mats can be placed in a science center for students to learn about living things and what they eat. Morning Work - These animal sorts can allow teachers to create quick and easy morning activities for students while they wait on their classmates to arrive to class. Independent Practice - These animal sorts are great for students to independently work on living things.
