Give pre-K/kindergarten teachers a thematic curriculum guide of cross-subject activity ideas (art, math, science, dramatic play, literacy, movement) for a community-helpers/careers unit.
Third day of the unit: students identify a real community member in their chosen career, begin drafting a letter requesting a real math problem from that person, and practice using a peer's job-related question in a class game.
Combined, week-long version of the framing-workers unit: pairs a 'Self-Employed Framer' real-world measurement/word-problem scenario with Native American (Ottawa/Chippewa) building history, inductive multiplication/division fact fluency (progressing across the week, e.g. x6 to x7 per the intro), and a culminating art/writing project.
Day 4 of the framing-workers unit: siding word problem re-run using yard-based measurements (3-yard lengths, 4-1/4" wide pieces, 1-1/4" overlap), building toward the Friday culminating art project and writing piece.
Provide 4th grade multi-step multiplication and division practice using word problems framed around running a flooring installation business, paired with a nonfiction passage on the history of flooring.
First day of a week-long, first-week-of-school interdisciplinary unit: students pick a future career, begin researching it, and practice multiplication fact fluency and word-problem skills, alongside close reading about Chippewa/Ojibwe tribal history.
Day 2 of the framing-workers unit: same 'Self-Employed Framer' siding scenario re-run with different measurements (120-inch lengths, 8-1/4" wide pieces, 1/4" overlap), reinforcing unit-conversion and fraction skills alongside fact fluency and reading/writing.
Combined, week-long version of the community-workers unit: ties career exploration to inductive multiplication/division fact fluency and word problems, close reading of Chippewa/Ojibwe tribal history, and daily writing, culminating in a 'Future Me' poster and letters to real community workers.

Day 3 of the framing-workers unit: siding word problem re-run using yard-based measurements (3-yard lengths, 7-1/2" wide pieces, 1-1/2" overlap).
Fourth day of the unit: students work independently to finalize their letter to a real community worker (including a student-created math problem and solution) ahead of a Friday sharing/presentation.
Second day of the week-long community-workers unit: students continue researching their chosen career using a new source and continue the math/reading/writing routine.
An informational page defines what a barber and hair stylist do — cutting, washing, and styling hair, plus trimming beards and mustaches — before a Reading Response page has students circle, box, and underline details from that same passage and answer two open questions about barbershop etiquette and the difference between the two jobs. A rhyming “Barbershop Rules” poem is followed by two personal-response worksheets, “Haircut Writing” and “Haircut Questions,” asking students to reflect on their own haircut habits and experiences. “Hair Stylist Words” fills ten blanks from a ten-word bank covering tools and terms, a “Hair Salon Senses” page prompts five-senses descriptive writing, and a six-line acrostic poem spells BARBER. A 14-word word search, a first-person narrative about getting a haircut, an odd-and-even-number elimination puzzle that reveals a hidden saying, a 16-term hairstyle list, a cut-and-paste pattern page, a coloring page, a maze, and a mock “Hair Stylist Application” round out the set.
A cross-curricular unit introducing PreK-K students to community helpers/occupations (police officer, firefighter, doctor, mail carrier) through a narrative class field-trip story, paired with follow-up activity pages.
A short nonfiction reading passage introducing students to a range of careers (helping jobs, fixing jobs, discovery jobs, creative jobs) plus discussion prompts and follow-up worksheets.
A no-prep career/profession activity packet teaching students about architects and architecture through reading passages, response worksheets, and drawing activities.
Teaches about volunteering and its role in career/life-skills development, as part of a practical life-skills series on employment and volunteering.
A research project where students investigate a specific U.S. university (assigned by state) covering costs, admissions requirements, degree/sport offerings, and student demographics, to build understanding of post-secondary options.
