Long vowel worksheets This is a pack of 23 phonic worksheets for the Long Vowel U-E (as in true and tune) specially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. A pack of 23 worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? 30 worksheets for the sound EA taking pupils from hearing the sounds in words to reading and spelling them at word and sentence level. all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Your phonics lessons are covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: Ā·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. Ā·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 23 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included of some common EA words. The different pages in this flip book allow students to practice recognizing the letter, writing the letter, and identifying words that begin with the letter. What is Included: This flip book has a cover page for students to simply color. The seek and find page practices letter recognition by having students identify capital and lowercase forms of the letter. The find and color page practices letter recognition of the target letter from other letters of the alphabet. Students can use dot markers to mark the letters, they can color in the letter or use stickers to cover the letters. The cut and paste page allows students to work with scissor skills to cut out examples of the letter from either printed materials, like magazines or newspapers, or students can use the letters provided at the bottom of the page. The trace and write page allows students to practice tracing and writing the capital and lowercase forms of the letter. The beginnings sound page has students coloring the pictures that begin with the letter. The trace and draw page has students tracing a word that begins with the letter, then drawing a picture to represent that word. This printable alphabet game includes 26 matching boards (AāZ) and more than 100 picture cards. Children look at the letter in the center of the board, say each picture aloud, and match the cards with the correct beginning sound. Each letter has its own board, allowing children to focus on one sound at a time instead of working with the entire alphabet at once. This makes the activity easy to adapt for introducing new letters, reviewing previously learned ones, or providing extra practice for students who need it. All phonics learners, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /u-e/ sound will start to make every /u/ into a long /u-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this U-E activities Pack has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound u-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /u/ and some have a long /u-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. AM Words Fluency Practice

Kindergartners and first graders will get a ton of practice reading AM words with these fluency activities. All target words are part of the AM word family. Students will practice reading these CVC words in isolation as well as in context of a simple sentence or passage. What is Included: Word Fluency Strips - These three strips only contain AM words in isolation. Students will practice reading the words on the strips until words are mastered. Sentence Strips - The sentence strips contain AM words in the context of simple sentences. Sentence Fluency Worksheet - Students will read the simple sentences then pick one sentence to illustrate in the box at the bottom of the worksheet. Reading Comprehension Passage - Students will read the story containing AM words three times then answer two comprehension questions and draw a picture to illustrate the story. Sentence Pyramids - There are eight sentence pyramids where students will read each sentence, adding a new word on each line. How to Use: These activities word very well in a reading or phonics center for students to work on independently or with a partner. They make great small group activities. Teachers can pull aside small groups of students who need extra practice reading AM words with fluency. The sentence fluency worksheets and reading comprehension page can be utilized as homework to send home for students to complete. Skills Assessed: These fluency worksheets and activities assess students' ability to read AM words in isolation or in the context of sentences. Students will practice reading comprehension skills with the reading passage page. The worksheets are print and go, no prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. They just need to be printed out and given to students to complete. The sentence strips and pyramid cards need to be printed and cut apart. These low prep cards can also be laminated for durability if desired.

What is Included: This resource includes a single foldable book for the letter H. Each book includes a cover page and 3 picture pages all with pictures that begin with H. Each page also includes a sentence that reads like "A is for Apple," making it easy to read for beginning readers. How to Make: Students will color each page of the foldable book. They will then fold the page to make an alphabet book. The student will then read the book to themselves or to another person. When to Use: Independent Practice - Students can be given these mini books to color and work on independently. Homework - This book can be sent home with students so that they can work on beginning reading and letter sounds with their parents. Literacy or Writing Center - Place the page in the center and let students create their own book. Library - The teacher may choose to create this book and add it to the classroom library for students to read during center time. These alphabet books are a no prep option for teachers to give to students to complete. Each book just needs to be printed out and given to students to complete. They will only need their desired crayons, markers, or colored pencils. No scissors or glue required! Students will have a lot of fun creating and reading these books. They will gain confidence in their reading skills by reading the easy sentences to themselves or to their peers. Students will also gain practice recognizing beginning sounds!
