Children around the age of 3 years and above begin to recognize environmental print, such as street signs, labels, and advertisements. Environmental print allows them to learn important sight words that are commonly seen in the environment. This reading game provides a way for children to have fun while learning about environmental print. With this decodable book, you will practice reading a short story that contains CVCe words and simple sight words. Kindergartners and first graders can gain practice reading words that contain the silent e phonics rule with other words they have already learned. What is Included: There is one emergent reader titled "In the Cage," which includes one cover page and five pages for students to color and read. How to Use: Students will color each page of the book, cut the pages apart, and then assemble the book, making sure the cover page is on top. The subsequent pages can be placed in any order and still be read with meaning. Use a stapler to attach the pages together. The repetitive nature of each page allows students to have success with reading and gives them extra practice with target words! Practice reading simple sentences with these letter C reading strips. Students will read words that begin with the letter C using the picture clue on each strip. There are 14 total reading strips that focus on the initial /c/ sound. All sentences are in the form of "C is for ___." These letter C reading strips are suitable to preschool or kindergarten kids who are learning to identify the initial sound of the letter C. These cards are perfect for introducing new vocabulary to students. What is Included: * Fourteen reading strips for the letter C - cupcake, cookie, cone, cat, castle, carrot, candy, candle, cake, cactus, car, corn, camel, cup. Teachers simply need to print out the strips and then cut them apart. They can be laminated if desired. They can be places in a reading or literacy center . By placing these strips on a ring or in a pencil box, students can easily take out and clean up these reading strips. These strips can be combined with the strips for other letters to create a sorting activity. Students can sort the strips according to each beginning sound.

CVC Words, Read, Match and Spell

Read, Match and Spell is an activity I made for one of my pupils to give fun practice of reading and sounding out CVC words. All the pupil has to do is choose a word, find the matching picture and then spell out the word using magnetic letters (not provided!) This activity is great for the less confident child as s/he is not presented with a blank piece of paper which can be rather daunting. All that is required is that child choose a word, and sound it out. Once the word has been read, the matching picture can be found. For maximum benefit. Do have the child sound out the word, rather than just copying the word as s/he 'writes it using the magnetic letters. Who is this activity for? For any child that is learning to sound out CVC words with a short vowel sound. Early years children will be very suited to the activity. How can it be used? It can be used with individual children, groups or in a literacy centre. You can even use the baseboard as a worksheet and let the child write the sound in the spaces. The teacher can choose which sounds are given to the child to work with, either a, e, i, o, or u. The teacher can choose to give the child practice in just one sound, or the sounds can be intermingled according to the needs of the child. What is included in the download? Build a Tower! Phonic Game: OO

Here is an ultra fun game to help pupils learn to sound out words with both the long and short forms of OO as in moon and book. When introducing OO words, many children have particular difficulty sounding out short OO words. This game can take the stress out of learning. How to play The game involves each player having a baseboard upon which to build his/her tower. Players aim to be the first to build their tower and win! Word cards containing both long and short OO words are scattered on the table - with an 'oops' card hidden amongst them! Players take turns to choose a card. If it is read correctly, the player places it on his/her baseboard and begins to build a tower. Teachers and parents may give the child as much help as needed to read each word and turn it into a teaching opportunity. With more confident children, you can change the rules so that the card is returned face down to the table if it is not read correctly. If a player chooses the 'Oops' card, then the whole tower is wiped off the player's board and the cards are returned to the table, face down and play continues until someone manages to build their tower. Your pupils will have so much fun they will forget that they are learning! Games take the pain out of learning! This is a Let’s Start Reading Volume 2: Fun Activities Packet. This is a 12-page packet filled with a variety of activities for students to enjoy. On the first 3 pages, students will read each sentence then, circle the correct item. -There are 3 boxes on each page. -Within each box, there is a sentence and two pictures to choose from at the end. The sentence frames are: I have a ball. I have a hat. I have a doll. I have a bike. I have a cup. I have a pen. I have a train. I have a van. I have a book. On the next 3 pages, students will write in the correct words to complete the sentence. it will be a fill in the blank for the students. It will follow the same sentence frame: “I have a boat.” Students will get to practice writing these same words. On the next 3 pages, students will read each sentence and then draw a line to the correct item. The correct item will be the correct picture of the object they just read. As a final animal review, students will trace each word. You can print and laminate these pages so they can be used over and over again.
