Letter N Spelling Puzzles introduces preschoolers and kindergarteners to spelling 5 common words that begin with the letter N using hands-on picture puzzles. Students will build vocabulary and phonics skills as they learn that words are comprised of individual letters and sounds. The puzzles feature high interest images like a nest, narwhal, net, nail, and nachos. Each letter of the word is separated onto different pieces that students will put together. In addition, key reading strategies are frequently covered including cause & effect, summarizing, compare & contrast and making conclusions. Three of the questions will be MCQs and two will require a written response of some kind. Full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 2-3 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Here is a simple phonic game to help children distinguish between the sounds F, V and TH. Many children struggle with the TH sound in speech and when spelling. In fact, part of this is the difficulty many children have in saying TH. This game can help. Objectives: ·to help the child to distinguish between the sounds ‘f', 'v' and 'th' in speech and in spelling Who can use the ‘f', 'v' and 'th' game? Any who have a child needing extra practice learning the initial sounds ‘f', 'v' and 'th' Teachers Parents Home educators Private tutors It is highly suitable for special educational needs pupils It can be used with ESL pupils What is included? 18 picture cards (6 of each initial sounds 'm' and 'n') 2 baseboards All components come in either full colour of black and white. The eco print, black and white version is ideal for sending home for homework. Simple to make 1.Print out the pictures and cut them into individual cards. 2. Print out the baseboards. To Play: Do ensure before you begin that the child can correctly say both the blowy TH (as in moth) and the hard TH (as in the). Let your child watch you as you say them, and look in a mirror as s/he says them. 1. Each player takes a baseboard. Vary it each time so that the players get a turn with both sounds. 2. Take it in turns to choose a picture card. Say the word. What sound does it start with? Help the child to emphasise the initial sound if necessary. Let him/her look in a mirror to see the position of the lips and listen for a soft 'f' or a hard 'v'. If the picture belongs on the player’s board it is placed in position. If not it is returned face down. Encourage the other player to try and remember where it is for his/her next turn. This helps in the training of the memory. 3. Play passes to the other player who does the same - until one player completes his/her board. Play then ends and that player is the winner.
