Synonyms Card Sort This card sort activity is intended for practice identifying pairs of synonyms. The five sets of cards contain 14 cards each. The student may work on the card sort independently or with a partner. *Note that there is often more than one synonym for a given word. Students should choose the best match from the cards provided. Included in this material · 5 sets of synonym cards (7 pairs of synonyms per set) · Answer key · Recording sheet Words Used in the Sorts Set 1: big/large, sick/ill, jump/leap, small/little, glad/happy, mad/angry, start/begin Set 2: own/have, bag/sack, sad/unhappy, yell/shout, car/auto, over/above, make/build Set 3: hat/cap, house/home, fast/quick, cold/cool, run/jog, shut/close, rabbit/bunny Set 4: talk/speak, baby/infant, pail/bucket, pal/friend, good/fine, dirty/messy, see/look Set 5: cry/sob, sip/drink, walk/stroll, fix/repair, rock/stone, road/street, smell/sniff Using the Card Sorts Before use, print, laminate, and cut the cards to be used. It is highly recommended to print on card stock 1. Set out the heading card for the set being used (ex: Synonyms Set 1). 2. Choose a card and place it on the work surface. Take a second card and decide if it is a synonym for the card already out. If so, place it next to the synonym. If not, place the card below to create a column. 3. Continue until all cards are sorted, creating pairs of synonyms. If a child is unsure of the meaning of a word, encourage the use of resources – a friend, dictionary, or thesaurus. 4. Check work with the answer key. 5. Record work in a language notebook or on the included recording sheet. Extension Activity If desired, have students do an extension after completing the card sort. To check their understanding, have them write an additional synonym for several of the pairs of synonyms matched, if possible. Have thesauruses available for use as resources! 'Writing A Balanced Argument' work packs are essential for all students wanting to develop their literacy skills and improve their grades in English assignments and examinations. This series of work packs set out how to write a well-balanced argument. These letter T playdough mats allow students to build those fine motor muscles while learning about things that begin with the letter T. Each mat features an easy to recognize picture of a word that starts with T for students to use playdough to create. These mats are suitable to preschoolers and kindergartners who are learning about the initial sound of the letter S and those who need extra practice building up their fine motor skills. There are 5 different playdough mats in this set: T is for ten. T is for tree. T is for tie. T is for tooth. T is for tortoise. Students can build their creations on the table top or directly on the playdough mat if laminated or placed in page protectors. When to Use Fine Motor Center Playdough Center Alphabet Center Literacy Center Independent Activity Small Group Activity Morning Tub or Basket Activity Table Top Activity Skills Assessed Fine Motor Skills Color Matching Beginning Sounds Letter Recognition The playdough mats themselves are no prep. The teacher will simply print them out, and laminate them if desired and place them in the appropriate center or activity area. All that needs to be added to this activity is different colored playdough or clay. These mats not only provide a fun and engaging activity for students to practice fine motor skills, they also provide a way for students to associate the initial sound of the letter T to recognizable pictures. Teachers will love the easy set up for this center activity. By laminating these pages, teachers will have a reusable playdough center for students to use over and over. The playdough should not stick to the laminated pages. If laminating is not an option, I would recommend placing the playdough mats inside of page protectors or in plastic sleeves. The playdough will not stick to their surfaces as well.

Long and Short E: Quiz Game Sample Game Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game Note 1: Upon opening you will come across a password prompt. Press 'read only'. Note 2: You may need to allow ActiveX controls to use the scoreboard. The game starts will the front screen. Press the arrow in the bottom right to move onto round 1 - short E. There are ten questions in each round, click on one of these buttons to go to that question. There are a mix of options and marks available. Click on the correct answer. Incorrect answers will go dim. Correct answers will flash, all the incorrect answers will dim, small picture will appear. At this point if you are using the scoreboard, click on scores. You can edit any of the boxes and don't need to leave slideshow to edit it - the team names and scores. Simply input using keyboard. You can't save this to use another time in the future but you can use it for as long as the PPT is open. From there you can go to Round 1 or 2 by clicking on the buttons at the bottom. Upon returning to the question screen, any questions already answered will be blank (ie. no text) so you can keep track of those answered. Once you finish round 1 the button for round 2 is on the round 1 question board or alternatively from the scoreboard.
