Colorful Semantics is a Speech and Language therapy technique which uses color coded cards to help children to learn the important elements of a sentence,and how to join them together in the correct order. Colorful semanticsbreaks down sentences into their thematic roles and then color codes them to help children to learn the important elements of a sentence,and how to join them together in the correct order. The approach initially has 4 key color codes: subject is orange, verb is yellow, object is green and place is blue. As children progress in their understanding there are further stages for adverbs, adjectives and time. This set can be laminated for durability and so that it can be re-used. It can be used as an independent activity or on 1:1 basis. The child will read the sentence using the color codes to help them decipher the meaning and then find the corresponding picture. Colorful semantics is perfect for use with young children learning correct sentence formation or in specialist settings with children with special educational needs. In this highly fun and engaging game, students will work together to decide the answers to a mystery game. They will listen to clues and read about a situation that needs to be solved. they will need to work together to solve this mystery. They will have one person who will be using a pencil to eliminate the answers that are not correct based on the different clues. There are a number of clues that groups of students will get (4 - 5 students is best) and each student will read each clue one at a time and the person who has the pencil and possible answers will help to cross out the eliminated answers based on the clues. Each student though will play a part in figuring out what clue is going to be a helpful clue to rule out an answer to either what is missing, who took it or where the item is. This is a great activity for groups to practice problem solving and cooperation, especially if you have some students who are not doing very well as cooperating as a group or some students who are not listening to other students share their perspective. Each student in this activity holds an important clue to the mystery. The directions are in the resource and this is highly engaging for the grades of third, fourth, fifth and sixth. However, for advanced grades, 2nd and even 7th grades would also benefit and find enjoyment in this activity. You know you students best! This is a Race to the Top PowerPoint Activity. This allows you to turn any worksheet into a game ! This is for any subject and any grade level. The goal of this game for students is to be the first to reach the top of the mountain. To do this, students must advance their team up the mountain by working sections of problems correctly. Once each team finishes a section of questions, they can check in with the teacher. If everyone is correct, that team will roll to find out which rule to play by. If incorrect, they will need to find and fix their mistakes before they check in again. Directions to Teacher Before Game : On “Race to the Top” slide, edit the box in top left corner to show the problems you want students to complete. The vertical gray bars in the textbook group problems into sections. Edit textboxes next to each rule to suit your preferences (or use the default rules). Edit “ Game Rules” slide to suit your preferences. Show this to students before starting the game . To Run the Game : Put PowerPoint in presentation mode. After a team finishes a section correctly, have them roll a dice to see which rule they get. Then follow the directions for that rule (if the rule involves a dice roll, have them roll again). To make a rule show up, click on the Rule textbox. Click on it again to make the rule disappear. Sometimes it’s advantageous for the teacher to select which Rule teams play by for a given amount of time (5-10 minutes). To speed the game up, use Rules 6. To slow the game down, use Rule 5. To catch last place teams up, use Rules 2 or 3. To advance a team up the mountain, click on their dots (starting at the bottom and working your way up). If you make a mistake and click too many dots, simply click the dot again and it will revert to white. Essentially, clicking once adds color; clicking on the same dot again removes the color.
