We are always looking for ways to teach our students new skills. Being able to tailor instruction to their learning styles is just one effective way to increase student engagement and set students up for success. Many of our students, from year to year, are visual and auditory learners. Most children (and even adults) can attest to their ability to better retain information that they have learned through music and song. Because of this, my resources seek to teach students skills through song. This particular resource is a1 + ___ Addition Song. This can be used in your math classroom with your kindergarten and 1st grade students. Included in this resource: --Addition Song MP4 video Student will love learning and reviewing this math skill with the options included here. This Meteorology Activity is a great follow up activity to a climate unit and your students are sure to remember! With this Meteorology Activity, students will be asked to research the information requested which involves filling the chart included Students will be asked to research the data on the internet. Students will be asked to do research for three consecutive days and keep track of the results. Though they are advised to do the research at the same time for each day. The type of information asked of students to find out include: temperature, wind speed, humidity, precipitation, UV index, etc. Additionally, students are asked to follow the stages of the moon, since they are also asked to record when the next full moon is going to be. To complete this activity, students need to become familiar with all these terms and report according to the findings. This Meteorology Activity is designed for students in middle school grades, though it can also be used with high school students. Completion of this activity may be used as formative assessment as well since it is designed for students to complete individually. This is a passage about the more "impossible" moments in Winter Olympic history. It is written on a 3rd-4th grade level and talks about the 1980 US Hockey Team and the 1988 Jamaican Bobsled team. These are two winter sports that the students are likely familiar with and the stories are interesting so it engages students while they read and answer questions. You can use this as a center, guided reading activity , homework, assessment, or just general reading check. The passage is available as a printable activity or there is a link to a Google Slides activity for students to complete digitally. An answer key is provided. The questions are written using 3rd Grade Virginia SOL question stems, however, they are appropriate for any student reading on a 3rd-5th grade reading level. Need more Olympics? AP Word Family Clip Cards

Kindergarteners and first graders will have a blast practicing AP words with these phonics clip cards. Students will get tons exposure to reading CVC words as well as building fine motor skills by using clothes clips to identify each letter. What is Included: There are three different sets of clip cards for students to practice reading AP words. One set has students clip the correct rime, the next set has students select the correct spelling, specifically focusing on ending sound. The final set also focuses on spelling, but students must choose the word with the correct rime at the end. How to Use: To use these clip cards, students will need to use a clip or some other manipulative to mark each clip card. Students will look at the picture on each card and then clip or cover the word that matches the picture. The teacher may choose to use other objects, like counters, bingo chips or mini erasers to identify each correct answer. The clip cards can be laminated so students can mark their correct responses with dry erase. Where to Use: Fine Motor or Literacy Center - Simply place the clip cards and clips inside the center for students to complete. Morning Tubs or Baskets - These clip cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on while their classmates to arrive to school. Task Boxes - By placing these clip cards in task boxes, the teacher will have an easy to set up activity for students that they can easily complete and clean up on their own. Skills Assessed Students will practice identifying AP words Students must read CVC words to determine the word that matches the image provided. Fine Motor Skills with marking their answers with clips These AP word clip cards are a low prep activity for teachers to assign to students. The cards just need to be printed out and cut apart before students can complete them.

As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Activities include: spelling games, sentence match-ups, mixed-up text and decoding words from the lesson. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun.
