End of the Year Math Project - Dodecahedron Dice
Twelve math topics — area, perimeter, volume, decimals, elapsed time, a multi-step word problem, interpreting data, converting units, fractions, geometry, place value, and rounding — become the twelve faces of a fold-and-glue dodecahedron. Students write and illustrate their own original problem for each face, cut out the separate pieces, crease the tabs and glue the pieces into a 3D shape, and either swap dice with a partner to solve each other's problems or solve every face themselves in a self-contained version. A four-category rubric grades handwriting/assembly neatness, problem accuracy, completeness of all 12 faces, and creativity of the illustrations. Teachers R Us Homeschool includes both the partner-exchange version with a separate answer/record sheet and a solo version where students create and solve every problem on their own dodecahedron.
