About the Game The best way to keep kids focused on reviewing phonics is variety. This game certainly has that. Final or Ending Sounds Phonic Game Phonemic Awareness Activity A fun pack of two games to help children develop the important phonic skill of hearing the final (or ending) sound of a word. It covers the final sounds: t, d, k, g, p, b, m, s, n. Choose from: Build A Castle or Win the Race. The games are the same whichever you choose and use the same picture cards, but the choice of the game board means that children will not get bored playing the game again and again, plus the fact that you can increase the fun level to keep the children playing! (see below). Objectives This game pack has been designed to give children practice hearing the final sound of a word, something many children struggle with, especially those with a speech delay. It is hoped that, as the child has fun playing the game that the child's phonemic awareness can be developed. The game can also be used within speech therapy to help children distinguish between sounds which are produced in a like manner: k/g; p/b; t/d. Many children have difficulty with sounds that are produced using the same part of the mouth/voice/tongue. If this is true of your pupil, then I suggest that you start by playing the game with two sounds which are not at all similar. Once the child can confidently hear the final sound of a word, then the game can be played with sounds which are similar to help the child’s speech development and the ability to carefully discriminate between like sounds. Grade/ages These games are suitable for children of any age who need to learn to hear the final sound of a word. Games make learning easy, and children learn without knowing they are! Pre-K to teens with special needs will all love these games . The fact that the games allow for an increased challenge level is an added factor, making them games that children and young people will want to play again and again—all good practice for securing the skill of hearing that final sound! How many players? It is suggested that at first, each child plays alone with an adult until they hear the final sound. Then, up to 4 children can be invited to play together. Simply print out the number of game boards you need. Increase the fun level! Begin by playing the game simply. Once the child gains confidence and you wish to play again with sounds that are produced in a similar way or to give further practice, then add in some fun. Flag or wheel cards can be scattered amongst the pictures, and the teacher can choose what these mean - either extra turns or 'miss a go'. I made this game for a ten-year-old reluctant pupil. Playing the Game After the titles and information about the game, the first game will begin. Students will be shown a close-up photo of an object and have to guess what it is. Press the = button for the answer and the original photo with word will appear. Press the arrow button to move onto the next question. 6 questions in total. Second game is a memory game. Starting with three pictures and ending up with six, students have ten seconds to observe the pictures on the screen, then need to say the words they remember. The picture page will automatically move on after ten seconds but if you wish to move on yourself quicker then there is an arrow button. In the answer screen, answers will flash if correct, dim if incorrect. Finally game is more like a question and answer, but in two parts. In the part, there will be a clue and 3-6 words to choose from. Press the correct answer. In the second section you will get the reverse, one word and then two to three clues to choose from. Fall Alphabet Memory Game – Uppercase ABC Cards

Fall Alphabet Memory Game – Uppercase ABC Cards ABC Picture Cards for Letter Recognition and Word Building This fall alphabet memory game is made with uppercase letters only, from A to Z. Each card shows one bold capital letter together with a simple fall picture, such as B with bat or P with pumpkin . I started using it at the beginning of the school year when my kindergarten class was just learning capital letters, and it quickly became a favorite activity. There are six complete decks of 29 cards each. I like having more than one set because I can give different groups their own deck and avoid cards getting mixed together. The most common way we use the cards is as a memory game, where children flip them over and look for pairs. But there are many other options: putting the alphabet in order on the rug, matching letters I call out, or using a single card as a starting point for a quick word game. The focus on uppercase only makes this resource useful for beginners. Students who are still getting comfortable with print can concentrate on learning one letter form at a time. English learners also benefit from the clear images, since they can connect the picture with the letter sound without feeling overwhelmed. Preparation is simple. Print, cut, and, if you want the cards to last, laminate them. I store mine in small envelopes so they are easy to grab during literacy centers, small group rotations, or as an option for early finishers. The autumn theme makes them seasonal, but the skills they reinforce—recognizing uppercase letters, matching letters with sounds, and developing early vocabulary—are important throughout the year. Playing the Game After the front screen the game begins. Press the control pad in the bottom left for the picture sequence to begin. Four pictures will appear on the arcade game console. After the sequence answer the question by clicking on the correct word. Correct answers will flash, incorrect will go dim. There is an arrow on the arcade game console at the top that can be used to move onto the next question. Each word is used twice but the order will be different the second time. Four words are included on each question and these same words will appear for two rounds.
