Reading Comprehension Quizzes - Coelacanth Ancient or Not?
Reading Comprehension, Reading, ELA, Life Sciences, Science, Vocabulary, Language Development, Writing, Theories, Basic Science, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Projects, Activities, Centers, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools
Coelacanth is one of the most popular pieces of evidence that evolutionary scientists use to prove their theory about the age of the earth. But Coelacanth was discovered living in the early 20th century. Not only was this “extinct” fish discovered alive and well, but it was also apparently the same with no major changes compared to the original fossil discovered and dated 65 million years. So, if macroevolution is true, should the coelacanth still be used as evidence of evolution or old age. If so, why are there no apparent changes in this specific animal? These are questions to be pondered by students who read the short article and answer the questions included in the activity. This reading comprehension activity includes the link to the article discussing the discovery and what this might mean to the overall picture painted for the public regarding the evidence. This activity can be used for guided reading as well as increasing vocabulary and practice critically evaluating both sides of a controversial topic: Creation vs Evolution. The answer key is included. Teachers can easily use this as a starting point for deeper research on the subject. Total usable pages: 3 Downloadable pdf file Link to article included #Guided Reading #Reading Comprehension #Vocabulary Test

Blank Writing & Activity Sheets – Spring Theme Flexible, decorative pages for writing, drawing, music, or custom classroom materials 🌸✏️ PNG + PDF These printable pages are designed to bring a little seasonal color and calm into your classroom. With soft spring-themed decorations and no pre-set lines, you can use them in almost any subject or context. Whether your students are writing stories, solving math problems, or composing short pieces of music, these sheets give them a gentle, creative frame to work within. What I appreciate about using open-format pages like these is the flexibility. Sometimes, we just need something that’s visually appealing but still leaves space for our own content – and that’s exactly what this resource offers. What’s included: A selection of blank decorative worksheets in a spring design No lines, so you can add your own structure (or none at all) Soft seasonal visuals – not too distracting, but motivating PDF format – for printing or digital notebooks (GoodNotes, Notability, etc.) PNG Format Ideas for classroom use: I’ve used these sheets in many ways over the years – as writing paper for creative assignments, as a quiet-time drawing prompt, or even for student-made math problems. Some students enjoy using them for reflection journals or personal check-in pages. They're also great for differentiated use: students can write a paragraph, draw a process, list keywords, or create a mind map – all on the same page layout. If you’re working in a digital environment, the files can easily be inserted into apps like GoodNotes and filled in with a stylus. Sometimes it’s the small details – like giving students a beautiful sheet of paper – that makes an activity feel more special and worth their time. Best, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Scientist Craig Venter - Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Version (PDF & H5P) Craig Venter – Sequencing the Human Genome and the Future of Synthetic Biology Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Exercises (PDF + H5P) 🧬🧪 This 45-minute resource introduces students in grades 9–12 to Craig Venter – a biologist and geneticist who played a major role in decoding the human genome and pushing the boundaries of synthetic biology. Most students know that DNA holds our genetic information, but they’re often surprised to learn how recently the full human genome was sequenced – and how intense the race to do so actually was. Venter took a different approach from public research teams and became one of the first to publish a full genome sequence. Later, he even worked on building synthetic cells – raising big questions about what defines life. To explore this complex but highly relevant topic, I’ve put together a compact and structured lesson. It includes an informational text, a fact sheet, quiz questions with answers, and a creative task for pairs. All materials are available in color and black-and-white, plus there’s an H5P version for digital classrooms. What’s included: A student-friendly overview of Craig Venter and the Human Genome Project A fact sheet to help students sort key information Quiz questions with answer key for review or independent work A creative task where students come up with their own questions and exchange them in pairs Available as printable PDF and interactive H5P 💻 Answer key included ✅ I’ve used this material in lessons on genetics, biotechnology, and current developments in biology. Students first read the text and complete a short profile about Democritus, then move on to quiz questions for comprehension. The optional extension tasks promote active engagement and peer interaction, and are ideal if you want to add 10–15 extra minutes to the lesson. This resource works in traditional classroom settings, for independent work, or in digital environments thanks to the H5P version. It’s also useful for differentiating – more advanced students can create and exchange their own questions, while others focus on the basics. No extra prep required – just print or upload, and the lesson is ready to go. Have fun exploring the world of science with your students! Warmly, Lernfitness Did You Know? Blank Domino Templates – With Matching Backs for Easy Printing
STEM, Science, Montessori, Common Core, Creative Arts, Graphic Arts, Resources for Teachers, Classroom Management, Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Grade 6, 7, 8, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Flashcards, Escape Room, Projects, Templates
Blank Domino Templates – With Matching Backs for Easy Printing A creative resource for designing your own domino games – in class or at home These printable domino templates offer a simple and flexible way to create your own domino-style learning games. Whether you’re planning a classroom activity, a subject-specific matching task, or even a commercial resource, this set makes the design process much easier. The download includes 6 ready-to-use templates, each laid out on a single A4 page in PDF format. Each domino comes with a color-matching reverse side labeled “Domino” – so once printed, you can fold and glue the sheet to create double-sided domino cards that feel polished and consistent. What’s included: 6 different blank domino layouts (PDF) Coordinated reverse sides for each template PNG versions of fronts and backs for flexible digital design Instructions for use (folding, gluing, optional laminating) Ideas for classroom use: I've used these templates in lessons where students create their own review materials. For example, after a unit on chemical elements or vocabulary sets, students design their own dominoes in pairs – matching concepts, definitions, or images. It’s a nice way to check understanding and encourage collaboration. Because the structure is already in place, the focus stays on content, not formatting. For digital or printable projects: You can insert your own content in programs like PowerPoint, Keynote, or Canva. Just add images or text boxes to the template and print. If you plan to laminate them, they’ll hold up well for repeated use. Commercial use is allowed under specific terms: the templates must be used as part of your own content, not shared in their original form. Attribution is requested (details provided in the download). A flexible tool for anyone who enjoys designing learning games – or wants to hand over the creative part to students! 📍 Best wishes, Heike from @Lernfitness Did You Know? Dinosaur Activities - Are Dinosaurs and Birds Related?
Research, Science, Life Sciences, Animals, Biology, Elementary, High School, Homeschool Resources, Middle School, Centers, Activities, Projects, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools
Are Birds and Dinosaurs Related? This activity pack helps students explore the scientific evidence behind the connection between birds and dinosaurs. Instead of simply presenting one viewpoint, this resource encourages students to analyze the evidence and form their own conclusions. I developed this project with my son, who has Autism, in mind. He struggles with writing and organizing his thoughts on paper. Using sorting mat activities reduced frustration and made learning more engaging. As a result, I began creating similar resources to help other teachers and parents make learning more interactive and enjoyable. What’s Included in This Activity Pack? Sorting Activities – Helps students categorize and compare information. Research and Writing Assignments – Encourages deeper exploration and evidence-based conclusions. Critical Thinking Development – Supports analytical thinking skills. Dinosaur Recognition Practice – Reinforces knowledge of different dinosaur types. Comparison of Bird-Hipped vs. Lizard-Hipped Dinosaurs – Explores their significance in relation to evolutionary theory. Bonus Activities: Realistic Dinosaur Coloring Pages Dinosaur Information Sheets for guided research Total: 41 Pages Learning Objectives By completing all activities, students will: Identify and describe at least one difference between bird-hipped and lizard-hipped dinosaurs. Name at least two bird-hipped and two lizard-hipped dinosaurs. List at least two facts about Archaeopteryx. Compare feathers and scales by identifying at least two key differences. Explain the difference between cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals. Research both sides of the "birds from dinosaurs" debate and write a five-paragraph report comparing bird-hipped and lizard-hipped dinosaurs. Analyze whether the evidence logically supports the idea that birds evolved from dinosaurs. This resource provides structured, hands-on learning that supports student inquiry and engagement.
