Mathematics Binder Covers – Templates for Classroom Use Organize your Math handouts, notes, and units with visual clarity Simple and flexible templates to help organize your Mathematics materials In my math classes, it can be a challenge to keep things organized - especially when it comes to multiple units, lab notes, worksheets and review materials. To make it easier for my students and myself, I designed these simple binder sleeves. There are 12 different pages. The covers have a clean, colorful blob layout that is friendly but not distracting. I usually print them out and use them as cover sheets or as dividers in folders for students or teachers. They also work well for digital learning environments, e.g. as section covers in PDF files or on classroom platforms. I like that the color scheme allows students to quickly find what they are looking for, and it brings a little more structure to a subject that is often riddled with formulas and technical terms. When used as cover sheets, students can choose their favorite color for their cover sheet. This resource is handy - and has saved me a lot of time in lesson preparation and follow-up. What’s included: 12 math-themed cover pages different colors zu choose as a cover sheet as a divider between the individual Mathematics topics I've printed these on colored paper for my own binder and also used them digitally in student notebooks. Works well for both teacher organization and student-facing materials. 📍 Best wishes, Heike from Lernfitness Math teacher (Chemistry teacher, Biology teacher) in Germany Did You Know? Recycling Workshop Home-School Connection

Recycling Workshop Home-School Connection
Social Studies, Grade 3, Activities, Projects

Have you been learning about the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle? Now that your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade students know what it means to recycle, it's time to put that concept into action. Students will find an object at home that would otherwise be trash and recycle it into something wonderful! Once they've completed their projects at home, they will bring them to school and get going on the second part of the workshop, which is a how-to writing outlining the steps they took to recycle their objects. Students will introduce their projects, discuss transition words, draw pictures of each step, and write a final draft. As a conclusion to the workshop, students will show their completed objects to the class and share their completed how-to writings with their classmates. The ultimate objectives are to put recycling into action, write a clear how-to essay so others can do the same at home, and share those essays with others. It's been a crowd favorite for three years running! In this product you will find a letter to send home to parents and students outlining the at-home expectations for the project, an outline for a rough draft of the how-to writing with a section dedicated to possible transition words for each step of their project, and a page for students to write a final draft. There's even a spot for pictures of the students with their projects! Finally, a rubric for assessment has been included and covers both the written and oral parts of the workshop. Shakespeare Text Messages: Comprehension and Reflection for ANY Shakespeare Play

Shakespeare Text Messages: Comprehension and Reflection for ANY Shakespeare Play
ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Literature, Writing, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Projects

Shakespeare Text Messages: Comprehension and Reflection for ANY Shakespeare Play This resource bolsters engagement when reading ANY Shakespearean play by tapping into modern forms of communication: specifically the text message. The tools provided are designed to support reading comprehension for your high school students in grades 9-12. The assignment features an example from the play Twelfth Night, translated into modern English text messages. Learners are encouraged to choose significant extracts (20-50 lines or 12-24 pieces dialogue) from the play they are reading, focusing on plot development, character evolution or theme expression. Then they translate their chosen passage into modern text messages (while adhering to standard grammar rules and punctuation). What if the characters from the Shakespeare play you are studying lived in the modern world and were texting one another? Maybe two actors are having a private chat, or a few are in a group chat. Demonstrate your comprehension of an important scene in the play by converting it into a modern communication medium: texting. Main Features: A sample converted passage from the play Twelfth Night so students can see the assignment in action. Blank text message pages for students to use when translating their own passage. Clear student instructions. A two-page reflection task to help students deeply comprehend their chosen passage. Questions Include: Summarize this part of the play in 3-4 sentences. Who are the main characters and what has been happening in the play before this scene? Why is this part of the play important? Make one or more connections to this passage. You can think of connections to yourself (did you ever feel the same way as the character?), connections to another novel or play you have read (is there something similar about the plot of the two stories?), or connections to current events (is this something that is still important hundreds of years after it was written?). A comprehensive rubric included for students to see how they will be assessed to to ensure easy and accurate marking! Grades to Use With: This lesson is perfect for students in English Language Arts in grades 9-12 who are reading ANY Shakespeare play. What's Included: 8 page PDF

The Constitution is a Living Document

The Constitution is a Living Document
Social Studies, Government, Research, Grade 7, 8, Projects, Lesson Plans

"The Constitution is a Living Document" is a comprehensive project designed to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of Articles 1, 2, and 3, as well as 7 amendments in several ways. The project is divided into 3 sections. Section 1 covers the Constitution (Articles 1, 2, and 3) and includes an essay and analyzing news articles. Section 2 covers the Amendments and includes an essay and analyzing news articles. Section 3 includes a conclusion essay and the bibliography. Students will apply their understanding of Articles 1, 2, and 3 as well as certain amendments by finding an article about an event in the United States (either online or from a newspaper), summarizing the article, and then analyzing how this article connects to the Constitution. There are also some extra credit opportunities. Although this project stands on its own after students have studied both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights either by using a textbook or other materials, it is an excellent summative assessment for my lessons on Articles 1, 2, and 3 and The Bill of Rights Unit, both of which are sold in my store. This summative project is perfect for students in Grades 7 through 12 and can be easily modified based on grade level and can be used for all students: ELL, RSP, Gate, and regular. The most important thing about this project is how students truly internalize how the Constitution is not just some old stuffy document but really is alive in our lives and protects our rights and our democracy. I have had students come back to me when they are in high school to tell me how much they got out of this project. I have also had several students tell me they helped their immigrant parents pass the citizenship test. They were able to teach their parents about our government. My favorite is how many 8th-grade students tell me they are now interested in current events and regularly follow the news! This project is part of my unit: “Our Living Consitution” which is designed using the Into, Through, and Beyond model of lesson planning. This project can be taught independently, but it is an excellent summative assessment for all my lessons on the Constitution in my unit. The lessons in the Constitution unit can be used independently or as a supplement to what you already teach or as a whole. Here is a summary of what is in the unit: You might be interested in my other Constitution-related lessons, many of which can be found in my bundle: Our Living Constitution. Estimating Crowd Sizes using Jacob's Method

Estimating Crowd Sizes using Jacob's Method
Math, Statistics, Grade 7, Activities, Projects

This investigation focuses on estimating the size crowds or even large collections of objects using some very basic mathematics. Jacob's Method of counting large crowds involves creating a grid that divides a given area into equal size squares. An estimate is made by counting the number of people in a few squares, then multiply the average obtained by the number of squares in the grid. What would happen if you use different size grids ? How do the estimates compare between pupils ? Could you get a more accurate estimate if you took all the estimates in the class and calculated th average? These and many more questions are presented on the worksheet provided along with a number of pictures of multiple objects and crowds with & without prepared grids for printing or viewing on a computer screen. This activity encourages sharing and comparing of data, refining methods of collection of the data and discussion about the accuracy and limitations of the method used. The package includes: Teachers Guidance Notes An introduction into Jacob's Method and a guide to the Worksheets Estimation Worksheet A Worksheet for the students on how to use Jacob's Method and record the data. A list of questions for discussion. Estimation Crowds To be used as a starter with the student's Estimation Worksheet containing 2 crowds of different densities. Pupils begin by guessing the size of each crowd, then estimate with a 6 square grid & 24 square grid using Jacob's Method. Estimation Samples 1 and 2 14 pictures to choose from all of which have a fairly even distribution: crowds of people, tomatoes, stars, trees, bricks, flowers, balloons, birds and more. Pupils estimate with no grid, a 6 square grid & 24 square grid, and are encouraged to experiment further with other grid sizes of their own. Estimation Sample 3 7 more pictures to choose from, but this time the distribution of the populations are not so even or regular, so its more challenging and opens up more questions. They include a football crowd, bubbles, two other crowds, a shoal of fish and a herd of wildebeast. There is lots to practice with & an excellent topic for critical thinking without the need for advanced math and can be extended into investigating bias in crowd counting. Note: All the documents are printable. To view the sample populations with the grids on a computer you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader on a PC or Mac. Common Core Links at 7th Grade CCSS7.SP.A.1 Understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a population by examining a sample of the population; generalizations about a population from a sample are valid only if the sample is representative of that population. Understand that random sampling tends to produce representative samples and support valid inferences. CCSS7.SP.A.2 Use data from a random sample to draw inferences about a population with an unknown characteristic of interest. Generate multiple samples (or simulated samples) of the same size to gauge the variation in estimates or predictions. For example, estimate the mean word length in a book by randomly sampling words from the book; predict the winner of a school election based on randomly sampled survey data. Gauge how far off the estimate or prediction might be.
