Sal’s Snips: A Case Study Exploring Mergers, Competition, and Expansion In front of Sal Saldano sits a huge decision-- whether or not to expand his business to the lucrative downtown of Genericburg. And if so, how? In this case study students will follow the story of an invented small business owner-- Sal Saldano-- as he hires students to consult him on his expansion efforts. Your students will be charged with pouring over the information provided, and then constructing a consultant's presentation for Sal on how he should proceed. In the meantime, students will learn about minimizing risks, best/worst/most-likely outcomes, expansion, and competition. In short, this activity is designed to get them out of the textbook and into real business scenarios! Included Materials: Instructor's Guide: A helpful guide for you, the teacher, as you look to make this project a successful one! Guiding PowerPoint: A detailed slides presentation to keep your students anchored to the content and the task at hand. Learning Intention: To explore the process of lawmaking by following a bill from being an idea to becoming a law. Task: You will be creating a hexagon foldable that explains the legislative process of lawmaking in a way that is easy to understand through the use of pictures and simple text. Directions: -Create a hexagon foldable that describes the legislative process of lawmaking. -Each flap must have the step number on the front with a picture (NO WORDS) and the description of the step on the inside of the flap. -The exposed middle area of the hexagon must have the title of the project ex: “How a Bill Becomes a Law.” -Text must be typed or NEATLY handwritten. Student hexagons must include: - The president’s role - The Senate’s role - The House of Representatives’ role - Role of committees - Role of a congressperson - Role of a citizen There is a Hexagon Project Rubric included. Art can be concrete and abstract simultaneously! Because of this, we want to assess mastery in the best ways we know how. We can do this when we present hands-on and engaging lessons and instruction to our students. This is aClass Logo Project. Itis an editable presentation that can be accessed through Microsoft or Google. It consists of 32 slides. The objective is for students to be able to understand the various elements of a logo and design a class logo. The presentation breakdown is as follows: Slides 2 – 4: Defining a Logo Slides 5 – 9: The History of Logos Slides 10 – 16: Students will work to find the hidden or special message in the famous logos to ensue. Slides 17 – 24: Golden Rules of Logo Design Slides 25 – 29: Logo Design Process Slide 30 – Student Assignment Slide 31 – Success Criteria Slide 32 – Rubric Student Assignment is as follows: --Create a logo for the class, using the Golden Rules (digitally or on paper) --Complete a reflection of the process and the included design elements --Submit final logo AND brainstorms/doodles/ideas along the way. there will need to be a coloured and black and white version. --When everyone is done, the class will vote on the new and official class logo.
