Breaking the Big Words Activity Book | Volume 1, Set 7
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Workbooks, Worksheets & Printables
Breaking the Big Words Activity Book - Volume 1, Set 7 Mastering syllable division helps young students become skilled decoders and confident readers. This resource from Breaking the Big Words provides focused practice on VC/CV syllable patterns and 2-3 syllable words ending in consonant-le. It utilizes visual supports to foster independence as students identify syllables, divide words, and "break" them while reading decodable sentences. Teachers can use this resource for whole group instruction, small group practice, or independent work to help K-2 students master syllable types in a strategic sequence. As a scaffolding tool, it builds confidence through review and exposure to new words. Breaking words apart also transitions students to application during reading. Adjust supports or provide additional practice to meet varying needs. This volume allows flexible implementation to reinforce essential early literacy skills.

Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little Activities Compare and Contrast Characters
ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Literature, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities
In this activity, students practice the skill of comparing characters from the novels Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little, by E.B. White. Graphic organizers can be a great way to help students organize their thoughts. The graphic organizer I chose for this activity is a Venn Diagram . Venn Diagrams are perfect for comparing and contrasting two things. There are several characters in Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little that work well for this activity. I've created three worksheets where students will be comparing Wilbur and Stuart, Charlotte and Margalo, and Templeton and Snowbell. This activity works well with second through fourth graders who have read the stories. You could hand out the graphic organizers at the beginning of reading and have students add to them as you read through the book. Or, you could wait until you've finished reading. Depending on the level of your students, you could have them list words to describe the characters on a sheet of paper. They could then use that when filling out these diagrams. A great extension to this activity would be if you want students to write a paragraph comparing the two characters. The graphic organizer would help them organize their thoughts into a good paragraph. One of the 3rd grade Reading for Literature standards is comparing two different stories written by the same author. E.B. White is a great author for this age group, and Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little are two great stories to compare.
