Alphabet Chart and Alphabet Flashcards This is a bumper pack of picture/letter cards to help you to teach initial sounds, or beginning sounds. It can be used by many different groups of people: parents, home educators, private tutors, ESL teachers, EFL teachers, SEN/D teachers, and generally in the Pre-K, or K classroom. The Initial sounds Teaching Pack contains over 170 picture cards, spread over 20 pages. It is in full colour. All vowels are marked in yellow to help children to recognise these important letters. In the pack you will find: An alphabet chart which can be used for display, or even laminated to make a placemat. Children love to use this to check their progress and see the letters they have learned and can recognise. Then we have 3 plus pages of pictures with the sound underneath, followed by the same cards without pictures so that pictures can be matched to the letters. Then we have picture cards for each letter of the alphabet; we provide 2 sets of these to minimise the chance of children memorising that 'a' is for apple without really hearing the sound at the beginning of the word. These are followed by 26 lowercase letters and 26 uppercase letters. These can be matched to each other, or to the pictures. Simple games can be made - can the child find the lowercase letter, the uppercase letter and both pictures that begin with that sound? Finally, we have two strips of vowels - one with picture cues and one without for children to practice the al important vowel sounds before moving onto blending and to use as a handy reference while learning to blend. Laminate the cards for durability. This pack will make your life so much easier! Teacher instructions and suggestions for activities are provided. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound of a word is a vital skill that is overlooked by many modern phonic programmes in the rush to get children to blend, but such a rush often leaves many children unable to blend as they cannot hear the initial sound of a word to start with. In turn, this leads to children who memorise CVC words, and from there on, learn to guess. Many of these children then do not make progress in reading, So this pack is very important to help make sure that every child not only knows the sound each letter makes but can hear that sound at the beginning of words. This action sentence diagramming tutorial is the only tool you'll ever need to teach students how to identify parts of speech in sentences with action verbs. Even though it is only two-pages in length, this guide was the primary tool of weeks of grammar study in my 7th grade English courses. It turns sentence diagramming into a fun game of sentence exploration, teamwork, and participation. To use this chart couldn't possibly be simpler. Simply hand it out - or better yet, laminate and provide dry-erase markers - and provide students with a sentence that employs an action verb. Students can then go through the 4 simple steps and break down the provided sentence to unveil all of the important parts of speech found in the sentence. The activity starts by identifying the action verb in the provided sentence. From there, students simply have to answer simple and easy questions about the verb. This character chart set gives a reading teacher fourteen ready charts and asks nothing of the text in return. Whatever your class is reading this month - a class novel, a short story in an anthology, a play, a picture book, a documentary - the same fourteen pages fit it, because none of them names a title, an author or a character. What separates these from a stack of blank boxes is that the headings do the teaching. One page asks students to sort words into traits and feelings, and to justify the sort from the text rather than from the word itself, because deciding whether stubborn and angry belong in the same category is where careful character reading actually begins. Another page holds two questions apart that are almost always run together: whether a character changes across a story, and whether a character is simple or complex. Those are independent, a character can be complex and unchanging, and students who have never been shown that will happily write that a round character must therefore be dynamic. A third page walks the five signals of indirect characterization one at a time and then asks what the five add up to, so the letters end as a judgement rather than as a collection. The comparison page prints its own questions down the left-hand side. Two characters then get measured against the same six things instead of producing two unrelated lists that never meet, which is what an unlabelled two-column sheet tends to produce. The final page is a planner: a claim in one sentence, two pieces of evidence, and an explanation of how the second proves the first, with a plain instruction to change the claim if the evidence will not support it. Pages are one chart each, ruled generously enough to write sentences rather than single words, and printed in black on white so a class set costs almost nothing. A line at the top of every page records the title of the text, so a folder of finished charts is still readable at report time. There is no key, because the evidence lives in whatever the student is reading.

The story is told through the eyes of Finch's daughter, Scout (Mary Badham), who is about six years old when the events of the film take place. Scout, along with her brother Jem (Philip Alford) and their friend Dill (John Megna), become fascinated with the trial of Tom Robinson (Brock Peters), a black man who is accused of raping a young white woman. As the trial unfolds, it becomes clear that Robinson is innocent and that the case is simply a product of racial prejudice and fear. Despite the evidence in Robinson's favor, the all-white jury finds him guilty, and he is sentenced to death. The trial, and the events leading up to it, cause a great deal of turmoil in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. Finch, who believes deeply in justice and equality, becomes the target of threats and abuse from some members of the community. However, he remains steadfast in his belief that everyone, regardless of race or social standing, deserves a fair trial and equal treatment under the law. In the end, Robinson is killed while attempting to escape from prison, and Finch's own children are attacked by the real perpetrator of the crime. The film ends with Scout realizing the importance of her father's principles and the power of empathy and understanding in a society that is often divided by fear and hatred.
