Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field that bridges the gap between physical and social sciences, enabling us to comprehend the world we inhabit and how human actions influence the natural environment. There are mainly two branches of Geography: that is the Physical Geography and the Human Geography. Physical Geography is about the natural environment, studying landforms, climate and weather pattern, ecosystems and natural resources. Physical geographers investigate the Earth’s surface, the processes by which features such as mountains, rivers and oceans are formed, and how they interact with the atmosphere. It also includes the study of weather patterns and climate zones as well as ecosystems such as forests, deserts and wetlands. Physical geography deals with environmental processes including erosion, volcanism, and plate tectonics, helping us to understand how Earth’s systems work. Whereas, Human Geography examines the relationship between humans and their environment, as well as how human activities are affected by the geographic factors. This subfield studies aspects like population distribution, migration, urbanization, and economic development. It studies how cultures, societies, and political systems are influenced by geography, and how human activity — agricultural, industrial, technological — shapes the landscape. Human geographers also analyze urban planning, global trade, and the ways geography shapes patterns of settlement and disease spread. Geography is critical for comprehension of issues at a worldwide scale, for example, environmental change, asset dissemination and maintainability. You are not trained on maps, satellite imagery, geographic information systems, environmental systems, human systems. In summary, geography assists us to navigate and analyze the globe, from relatively local scales to global challenges. It’s a discipline that increases our understanding of the Earth and prepares us to tackle the challenges society faces today.

What is Included: There are 39 CVC words included in this packet, all with the short I vowel sound in the middle. Included in the packet are illustrated directions on how to put the cards together. How to Use: Students will get a card for the pile. Students will practice reading the word on the card, using the dots and arrows as a finger guide to reading the word. Once they feel confident that they know the word they read, they will open the card to reveal a picture of the word they read. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these short i words. Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. The fact that the teacher can easily choose which words to include inside a center or activity, allows the teacher to easily differentiate this activity for her students. The cards do require some prep work to put together, but once created, they will provide a long term center or activity for your classroom. They need to be printed, cut apart and folding into thirds to create the read and reveal nature of this activity.

This volume uses visual supports to foster independence with the break-and-read strategy. Students first break unfamiliar words into syllables, then insert slashes between syllables. As a final step, they break syllables while reading sentences. With success, supports are removed. Teachers can further generalize the strategy by having students break words while reading leveled texts. This standards-based resource builds confidence through repetition and a gradual release model. Both remedial and advanced students will feel challenged yet supported. Use for small group skill work or independent practice.

Included in the packet are illustrated directions on how to put the cards together. The diphthongs included in this set are: oi and oy. How to Use: Students will get a card for the pile. Students will practice reading the word on the card, using the dots and arrows as a finger guide to reading the word. Once they feel confident that they know the word they read, they will open the card to reveal a picture of the word they read. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these words Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. The fact that the teacher can easily choose which words to include inside a center or activity, allows the teacher to easily differentiate this activity for her students.
