How much musical knowledge do the choices assume?
Very little. Most turn on singing, dancing and performing in front of people, and some slides include references such as a jazz musician, heavy metal, classical music and Beethoven’s white wig, so a class can play before any of those have been taught.
Are any of the options tied to a particular moment?
Two are. One slide offers to "Dab every time you sneeze" and another asks for the Cha Cha Slide, both of which need a quick demonstration for a class that does not know them. The rest - rock star, jazz musician, birthday song, Beethoven - are not tied to a trend.
