This fully editable Lab Station Activity on the Classification of Living Things is meant to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content. Each station not only offers a unique opportunity to test your students' knowledge (offer an opinion, answer questions based on a video or reading, draw, etc.), but also provides a fantastic learning opportunity where your kids are learning through assessment. Each station comes with a description card while some also contain more detailed instructions, a reading, questions to answer, etc. Students are equipped with a recording sheet (passport) to write their answers. There is almost no prep for you. Simply print the cards, lay them out around the room and you're all set. An answer key is also provided where applicable. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This lab activity covers: - The Classification of Living Things - The 7 Kingdoms - Taxonomy ---------------------------------------------- Bonus Activities: To ensure your students don’t have any downtime between stations, your lab also includes a 10-word word scramble and word search, both with an answer key. Station 7: Learn from the expert – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must watch a short video clip and answer the associated questions. They may stop, rewind and restart as often as they like during the time frame. Station 8 - Rest Station. This lesson teaches students an organized and thorough approach to writing 5 sentence paragraphs. It is designed for middle school students in grades 5-8 or high school special education students. It introduces the terms: Point (stated in the topic sentence & the concluding sentence): says what the paragraph is about by making a claim or sharing an opinion Evidence: a fact, statistic, example, or quotation from a text that supports your point Explanation: your explanation and analysis of why the evidence supports your point Then it teaches students how to use these kinds of sentences to create a cohesive paragraph. Colour-coding is used to make the information more visual, but the pages can also be printed in black and white. What's Included: 10 Page PDF ready to print and go! Title Page/Teacher Instructions Student Handout with all of the necessary terminology: Students can refer back to this again and again! Seven engaging activities are included: Two cut-and-paste sample paragraph activities: These activities have 5 sentences which are mixed up. Students cut them out and paste them in the correct order to create logical paragraphs. One is about Little Red Riding Hood and one is about Mi'kmaq culture. Three paragraphs that have errors that need fixing: These paragraphs don't have five sentences in the correct order, or the correct types of sentences. Students may have to cross out a sentence and/or add a sentence. There is room to re-write the entire paragraph correctly. These are two social studies, world cultures, separate advisory or homeroom lessons to help students understand the world better. They could be two separate lessons or one long one. The pictures shown are from the videos. In the "If The World Were 100 People" lesson, the engaging video link describes the world's population filtering for income, technology, language, etc. In the editable handout, teachers can tailor the analysis to their city and school. Students will answer questions about the video as well as analyze their own city and school communities. In the Dollar Street lesson, there is a video link to view the explanation of the Dollar Street tool-which examines families in 50 countries. The tool displays the homes as if they all lived on the same street where the richest live on the right and the poorest live on the left and everyone else in between. It is an amazing tool.
