Sorting What goes together FOOD

In this educational activity , the learner will be presented with a set of food items, such as lettuce, cheese, ham, bread, tomato, pickle, mustard, and mayonnaise, along with a picture card of a sandwich. The goal of the activity is for the learner to sort the food items that go together to make the sandwich. Other food in this activity is baked potato, hamburger, taco, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, hot dog First, provide the learner with the picture card of the sandwich, and ask them to identify the different food items that go together to make the sandwich. The learner can then sort the food items into groups based on their function in the sandwich, such as the bread, filling, and condiments. To make the activity more engaging, the educator can use real food items instead of picture cards, and ask the learner to physically assemble the sandwich. This will not only reinforce the learner's understanding but also provide a hands-on learning experience. Next you can introduce the different food cards and discuss their differences, such as their taste, texture, and nutritional value. Then present the various sorting cards for the different foods and discuss the various different foods that go with the food card. Some food cards may have some of the same sorting cards For example cheese might be on pizza, baked potato, hamburger and a sandwich which makes it a great time to discuss how the some foods fit in with other foods. Lastly you could discuss the importance of a balanced diet and how the different foods contribute to overall health and well-being. The learner can also be encouraged to come up with their own healthy sandwich combinations, using the knowledge they have gained from the activity . By engaging in hands-on sorting the learner can develop important cognitive skills such as attention to detail, observation, and reasoning. It is also easy to individualize and can be used in a group setting or one on one. This activity is easy to create and assemble. Print and laminate for many years of teaching and learning. Enjoy! Cathedrals of the Middle Ages

Teach your students about the cathedrals of the Middle Ages with this engaging activity. LESSON GOAL Students understand the role that cathedrals played in the religious life of people during the Middle Ages. Sections in the reading texts include information on pilgrimages, the architecture of cathedrals, religious art, and relics. TEXT EXAMPLE "During the Middle Ages, local churches played a very important role not only in people’s religious, but also their daily lives. In most places people were actually required to go to church on Sundays by law. Those who refused could be fined or even imprisoned. Churches also provided baptism for newborn babies, marriages, and funerals. Merchants and traders often held markets around churches, paying a fee to do so. Christians during the Middle Ages were also encouraged to go on pilgrimages – religious journeys – to famous holy places. Many people travelled as far as the Holy Land to visit Jerusalem – the place where they believed Jesus had been crucified and then had risen from the dead. Other popular pilgrimage destinations included Rome – where many early Christian leaders had lived and died – and the Spanish city of Compostela." PROJECTS After completing their research, students are asked to create a poster advertising a cathedral and the different attractions it would have for visitors. Project sheets are provided in a variety of different formats for you to pick from.
