Practice reading words with the suffix -ED with these sentence reading rings. Students will read words with the suffix -ed in the context of sentences. Each card also includes a bold and colorful image to illustrate each sentence and to help students to learn the meanings of each word. What is Included: This resource includes one reading ring activity for the suffix ed. There are cards each featuring a different word with the suffix ed, with a sentence using the word in context and an image to illustrate that sentence. When to Use Early Finishers - If students finish their work early, they can use these reading rings for extra practice. Small Group Work - Teachers can use these reading rings to target small groups of students who need more practice reading words with suffixes. Independent Practice - Students can work independently at their desks to read this set of suffix cards. It includes three-digit products, one-digit divisors, and division with remainders. How to Use: Go over the first page together as a class. Review the definitions of multiplication, division, and estimating. Then complete the first word problem together- modelling the 4 steps: choose the operation, estimate, solve, and solve using an alternate method. Then you can let students work on the five other problems independently or in small groups. They could do some of the problems in class and a couple of them for homework. I have included a quick self- assessment at the end, so you can see which steps students are confident with and which are a bit more challenging. My students often struggle to think of an alternate method to solve the problem, so I can target some small group support for that skill. Students will learn about the different ways, and reasons, why tombs were constructed in different places and ways and for different reasons. PITS & MASTABAS Introduces students to natural mummification and burials in sands and rock pits. They then learn about the construction of Mastaba tombs during the early Old Kingdom period and their appearance/sizes. PYRAMIDS Students learn about the development of pyramid building during the reign of Djoser with the construction of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. The section then covers the development in pyramid building under the pharaoh Snefru with the construction of the Bent, Medium, and Red pyramids. Students then learn about the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza and later pyramids built on the same site by his successors. Lastly they learn about the building of smaller mud-brick pyramids and the highly decorated pyramid of Unas. UNDERGROUND TOMBS Covers the First and Second Intermediate Periods when many older tombs were robbed and the decision by Egypt's rulers to begin burials underground in and around the Valley of the Kings during the New Kingdom period with the creation of large, highly decorated tombs. ACTIVITIES Students can work to create an illustrated timeline showing the history of tomb building. There is also an additional activity to help them learn about the different stages of the construction of the Great Pyramid. Students can also complete a fun crossword puzzle activity .

This Icebergs reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: I and E

Here is a simple game to help children learn to read CVC words with the medial sounds I and E. This game will help your child to learn to blend three-letter words with the short vowels ‘i’ and 'e'. That means, to put sounds together to make a word. The child has to be able to feel and hear the word that is being sounded out. This game is supplied in both colour and black and white - you choose how you print! We suggest laminating the pieces for durability. Who is the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: I and E for? Those who are just beginning to sound out/blend CVC words with the I and E short vowel sounds. These may be: Young learners Special needs learners ESL/EFL learners of any age. Who can use the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: I and E? Parents Homeschoolers/home educators Teachers in class, or for use in centers Those involved in intervention work Private tutors How can the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: I and E be used? It can be played as a game for 2 players It can be used as a matching activity for individual pupils - great for centers! It can be used for assessment purposes The game pages can even be used as worksheets - you choose! To make the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: I and E Simply print out the two baseboards. Print out the word cards and cut them up. Teach your pupil to take care of the cards and not bend them more than can be helped. To play the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: I and E Take a baseboard each. Scatter the word cards face down. Take it in turns to take a word card. Read it. If it matches a picture on your baseboard, place it in the correct space. If not, return it to the pool of cards. Play continues until someone completes their board, or until all the cards are used up. Teaching tips: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your turn and invite your pupil’s help when it is your turn, so s/he gets even more practice. Your pupil will need a lot of blending practice so be patient. If your pupil has difficulty sounding out these words then spend more time practicing blending before playing the game again.
