To complete this sorting activity , students will look at a beachball to determine if the picture begins with the letter B or does not begin with the letter B, and then the students will place the beachball on the correct beach. Desert Number Cards

The Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity is a simple activity for those just starting to learn the initial/beginning sounds. This game provides 2 activities in one, either an activity for one player, or a game for two or three players. For use: In the classroom - centres, paired activities, intervention etc.. At home - by parents + home-educators Aim of the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : ·That the child will be able to match the correct letter to the correct picture by initial (or beginning) sound ·That children will hear the initial (or beginning) sound of a word ·That children will know the sound that each letter /a/ to /z/ stands for To prepare the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : Print the pages you require (colour or black and white). Cut along the lines to separate the letters from the pictures. To play the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity Play as an activity for one player: Scatter the cards face up on the left and the letters cards, face up on the right-hand side of the player. The player should select a picture card, say the word and listen for the initial sound. The player should then find the matching letter that stands for that sound. Completed pairs are placed in front of the player. For two or three players: Scatter the pictures and letters as before, but face down. Players take turns to select a picture, say the initial sound and then attempt to find the matching letter that stands for that sound. Wrong attempts should be returned to the pools of cards. The players place their completed pairs in front of them and compete to find the most pairs before the cards run out. Teaching tips for the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : Do give support as needed so that the child feels successful. We need the child to end the game feeling s/he can do this. Are you looking for fun activities for practicing number recognition? These pixel art worksheets are perfect for getting your students to practice number identification for the number 4! Different options for how to use this resource: Cut and paste You can choose to print the colour square pages on white paper. -This is the simplest option, but it will take a lot of colour ink. Or you can choose to print the black line squares pages on colour paper. -This will use a lot less ink, but it will take a little more work to prepare. -You may struggle to find colour paper in all the colours I have used. If you have a problem finding the right colours, you can generally substitute a different colour if you need to. Simply look at the answer key to see what the pictures are and choose an appropriate substitute colour. Colour by number You will only need to print the worksheets and allow the students to colour the squares themselves. Preparation: Worksheets 3 printing options: 1. Full colour - best if you will be able to use all the same colours that I have used. 2. Partial colour – I have left the colours blank. You will need to tell your students what colours to use for each number before they can start the activity . This is best if you need to make some substitutions because you are printing on colour paper and cannot find all the correct colours. 3. Black and white - like with the partial colour version, you will need to tell your students what colours to use for each number before they can start the activity . Squares Pages If you are using this resource as a cut and paste activity . 2 printing options: 1 .Colour squares pages (Print on white paper. Each page will have information telling you what picture it is meant for. Simply give each student a block with the different colour squares along with their worksheet) 2. Black line squares pages (print on colour paper. This is the CVC Word Builder Activity #2. Students will practice building Consonant Vowel Consonant words. This is great for young learners including kindergarten, 1st grade, and even some 2nd grade students. If you are a special education teacher, you will especially enjoy having a resource like this in your toolkit. The first page will have a spinner at the top of it. The spinner features 8 letters: c t b n f m p r Students will spin the dial, then use the consonant letters to make a word. On the bottom of the first page as well as the following two pages, there are a total of 10 boxes. These boxes are where students will build their CVC words. The 4th page will have the VC cut outs for students to build words. These cut outs should be printed and laminated for durability. You can place them in a storage baggie, so students do not lose them. Students will select one of their VC cutouts and place it on the first page next to the spinner. Students will spin the dial to determine what their beginning consonant will be for the word they are set to build. The VC combinations included are: -an -at -en -et -in -it -on -ot -un -ut This is a great reusable activity once you have laminated all pages and pieces included. For students who need an additional challenge, they can write sentences using the CVC words they have built.
