Sometimes little ones have difficulty determining whether they are tattling or reporting! Am I Tattling or Reporting? addresses the ever present habit of tattling. I remember years ago when someone tattled, my co-teacher and I would turn toward the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance. The kiddos would stare and look shocked and of course we would address the idea of tattling at an immediate class meeting at the first occurrence. SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning with SEL Coloring Pages

In this SEL product, you will get SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning. You will also get SEL coloring pages because there are two different pages of emotions/feelings. Both pages have a black and white version and a color version. The black and white version allows your students to color their own faces and images. The emotions listed are; happy, sad, silly, proud, shy confused, scared, excited, angry, tired, loving, sick, disgusted, cry, jealous, disappointed. These flashcards can be used for so many purposes. I have used these flashcards for Go Fish games where the students have to ask for a certain feeling. You will need to make two copies of the colored emotions poster to make this game work. If a student asks for "angry" and the student they asked has it, that student give the card to the one who asked and that student places the match down on the table and names a time they felt angry. I have also used this resource for memory games. You would, again, make two copies of each emotion. Then you would mix up the cards and place them face down (I would highly recommend cardstock) in a random order. Students then would choose two cards and reveal the emotion cards. If they are a match, then the student can share when they have felt that way. If it is not a match, they would place the cards face down again the the next student would take a turn. This is a fun and interactive game but also helps students discuss their feelings in a non-threatening way. This resource can be used as a whole class activity where students color their flashcards and then cut them out. They can randomly pick a card and name a time they felt that way. This can also be used as a center activity for Go Fish or Memory (as I described above). The ways to use these Emotion SEL Flashcards are endless!

In this SEL presentation, you will get a 5 slide Google Slide Presentation. This was originally created for remote learning, however you can adapt this for in the classroom as well. On the second slide, there is a read aloud that I created for the book My Cold Plum Lemon Pie Bluesy Mood by Tameka Brown. This is a wonderful book about a boy with many different feelings, emotions, and moods throughout the book. On the 3rd slide, there is access to a digital spinner with many different feelings on it. Once you click on the spinner in presentation mode, it will create a new tab, scroll down for the large spinner with a variety of feelings on it. When you click on the spinner, it will move and make spinner sounds. You can choose a student to come to the board or your computer to click it to stop. When it stops there will be a feeling on the screen. You can have students turn and talk about when they have felt that way, you could have them talk in groups, you could do it whole classroom and students can raise their hand. Play as many rounds as you have time for. Next on slide 4 the students can do a feelings scavenger hunt where they find something in the classroom (or home if it remote) that reminds them of that feeling. There is animated picture of feelings that come up on the screen. This gets kids up and moving in the classroom and having fun. Finally, on the last slide you will have access to a homework sheet to pass out to students called Inside/Outside Feelings Scavenger Hunt. Students can take this home and fill it out. They will answer prompts for; That makes you feel silly?, What reminds you of a trip, etc. There are 12 prompts for them to answer.

Anxiety and Calming Strategies Bingo

Anxiety can be difficult for children to manage and express. This “Anxiety Bingo” game provides a unique outlet for kids to identify calming strategies that work for them when feelings of worry start to swell. With simple yet versatile bingo boards, it allows children to actively try different relaxation techniques to ease anxiety. The bingo boards have a standard 3x3 layout with 9 different soothing strategies listed, like taking deep breaths, getting a drink of water, hugging a stuffed animal, positive self talk, or writing down your feelings. Children can use the given calming strategies or they can make their own custom bingo board and write down things that help them feel better. Once the child tries a technique, they mark it off on their bingo board. The goal is to get 3 strategies in a row - just like regular bingo! This incentivizes them to keep practicing helpful skills. Having multiple boards on hand allows for replayability as well. Not only does this activity foster relaxation in the moment of anxiety, but over time it builds children's understanding of different ways to self-soothe. They learn constructive ways to independently cope with anxiety while having fun playing an engaging game . It’s anxiety support wrapped in a child-friendly bingo package! In this resource, your students will have a take home brochure to help them think of and remember ways to calm down and cope with big feelings. There are 6 sections of this resource. There are SEL coloring pages in this resource. The first section is the cover page with has a mindfulness coloring activity that students can customize to their liking. This in and of itself is a coping skill! Next you have a place where students can use their name and use the acronym of their name to help them come up and customize how they would like to calm down when they have a big feeling. For example, if the name is Jenny, they can write; J is for make a joke or listen to a joke, E is for Exercise, N is for Try something New, the other N is for Notice objects in the room (such as all the things that are green, blue, etc.) and the Y is for do yoga poses. On of the pages is the directions and the other page (flap) is for them to write their own name and customize their strategies. One of the flaps give them the acronym of CALMS which stands for C-Calming Exercises, A-Activities that distract (reading, playing a game or sport, puzzle, word search, etc) L-Look around the room (Look for all the blue objects, Look for things you see that begin with the letter A, etc.) and then M-Mindfulness practices. These are things that really bring students into the present moment. Look for 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste, etc. The S is for Sensations. Do things that make you feel different sensations that are pleasant such as place an ice pack on your forehead, go into a hot shower or hot tub, etc. Taste something sweet or spicy. These are all the things that can help someone cope with a strong feeling.
