This is one reason we like to incorporate music in our learning environments. We don’t have to limit music to music class only for our students. In this resource you will receive a very engaging and fun game played like Apples to Apples. There are 30 different emoji cards and 90 different person, place, thing, event cards. There is no reading required. Anyone over 5 can easily play this game. Directions: One person is the "judge" first. I usually choose the oldest in the group. The judge turns over one of the emoji cards. The other players choose one of their person, place, thing, event cards that best fits with that particular emoji. The judge then decides which one is best and the person who put down that card in the pile wins the emoji and also gets a point. The game continues as the next person clockwise is now the "judge". Each player needs to have 5 person, place, thing, event cards at all times. If they played a card, then on the next round they get another person, place, thing, event card. The discarded/used cards go back in the person, place, thing, event card pile to be replayed in future rounds. There are directions in this product. Uses: This game is great to play for indoor recess, centers , community building, etc. Because this is fully editable, you can choose which emojis you want and which person, place, thing, event cards you want. You can add or delete any of the pictures. You know your students best. I would recommend copying one set for each group of students playing. I also recommend using card stock and laminate for durability. Kelso's Choices Battle Brackets-A Fun SEL Game

Basketball brackets can be used for anything-not just basketball! In this SEL product, students will get excited about participating in a Kelso's Choices bracket battle! Kelso's Choices are 9 ways to solve small problems. There are 5 different Kelso's Choices bracket templates and one blank one. One of the templates is nonverbal versus verbal choices. This is fully editable as it is a Google Slide Presentation. There are 24 different scenarios for students to contemplate and choose Kelso's Choices for. This can be played as a whole class or small group. To play, you give each group a certain scenario. Then they begin with discussing one of the 2 competitors among the 8 competitor choices. Students keep track of the votes and the winner moves on to the semi-final round (4 choices), then the winners of that, move on to the final round. You could even have all small groups talk about the same scenario and the whole class does a final vote for the winner. It is up to you how you wish to play the game . Some of the scenarios are; someone will not let you play, someone cut in front of you, someone teased you, someone called you a name, someone made fun of what you are wearing, someone accused you of cheating, etc. You can also edit the scenarios to make it work for your groups or class. The key to keeping this engaging and a higher-order activity is to have students say which choice they would use and why. Students can share a time they used that particular choice, when a choice works or does not work, or the best conflicts for each choice. Students can also share a time when a particular choice did not work and that is why they did not vote for it or share a time when a particular choice worked and that is why they voted for it. In this SEL game, students will learn and practice cooperation skills. They will be in groups of 3-4 and they will do a cooperation scavenger hunt together. There are 5 tasks for them to complete. They can complete these in any order they wish. There is a find the hidden objects tasks where students will work together to find the hidden objects in the picture. This resource contains 2 different hidden objects sheets to choose from or you could offer both types for the task. There is a task where the group will create a team name. Another task is about creating a special handshake made up of 6 moves. Another task of for the group to come up with 5 things they all have in common. Lastly, there is a task where they will do 10 jumping jacks or wall push-ups all together. This is a very fun, engaging SEL activity where there is a mix of physical movement, concentration, creativity and more. This activity is great for students in grades 2nd-5th. At the end of the activity, students can share their special handshakes, their team names, what 5 things they have in common with one another. It is also a time to discuss what type of cooperation skills were used in this activity. Ant In Circle SEL Lesson-About Growth Mindset and Grit

In this 7 slide Google Slideshow, you have a lesson that is low prep and engaging. Students will get hooked first by a short video about an ant getting trapped in a pen circle. There are many discussion prompts. Then students will connect the concepts from the video to real life SEL situations. There is an activity where students draw a circle on a piece of paper and write in the middle "I can't" and then on the outside of the circle they will write ideas on how to escape the "invisible" barrier. On slide 6, they will do an index card experiment-read the slide notes. Then students will do an exit activity about what next steps they would be willing to do to break out of their circles to do something new. It is not on the actual slide in case you do not have time to do this activity. This lesson is great for third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth. (Maybe even in high school as well.) Stop, Think, Choose – Self-Control SEL Game

In this resource, you will get a fun SEL game for students. This STOP THINK CHOOSE game is to help students practice slowing down when they are upset and thinking through their feelings and choices. There is a stop sign handout that all students receive and can take home. This can also be used as an SEL poster in the classroom to reference this strategy of Stopping (calming down and stopping what you are doing), Thinking (How do I and other feel right now?) and Choosing a safe and respectful choice. When students play the game, they will land on ice cream truck, car and stop spaces. The ice cream truck is for fun. The students will read the joke or "would you rather" question to the group and they will guess the answer or share their preferred choice of a "would you rather" question. The car spaces are for scenarios where students can walk it through the stop, think, and choose strategy. The stop sign spaces for for students to act out a motion, saying, or movement around the room activity and the person on their right will tell them to stop. Students will practice stopping right away. This is great practice for when teachers ask students to stop and they need to learn to stop right away in the moment. Lastly there is an extension handout for students to fill out that assesses if they understand the strategy. There are 24 car scenario cards and 24 ice cream truck cards for fun. There is an action needed for each space of the game. The game board is 8.5 by 11 inches but if you would like to enlarge the game board, this is possible using a copy machine and zooming to a larger size if needed. Have fun with play dough and teach feelings at the same time with these blank play dough feeling cards. There are 16 blank faces with hair, 6 without hair, and 2 different sizes for the ones without hair. Students can think of a feeling to create on their card or choose a feeling card-there are 8 different feeling cards. The feelings on the cards are excited, happy, proud, mad, scared, worried, disgusted, and sad. This resource can be used for individuals, small groups, centers in a classroom, or as a whole group. This resource is suitable for pre-k, kindergarten, first, and second grades. There is no reading required. This resource is fully editable after accessing a copy of this Google slideshow. You can resize pictures or add more feeling cards or different feeling cards. There are directions included. First, read a story about feelings to your class. Then, decide which type of cards you would like to use, whether they are with hair or without. Be sure to laminate for durability. Invite students to decide on a feeling and then create that feeling with play dough. As an optional activity, you can print out the feeling cards which have the name of a feeling and an emoji on it-and students can try and recreate that particular feeling. There are many different ways to use this resource. This could be one station in a center 's activity on feelings and emotions.

Kelso's Choices – SEL Coloring Pages & Activities

In this SEL coloring page resource, you will receive 3 different Kelso's Choices extension activities. Plus one additional maze in the color green. There is a black and white frog maze, a color by Kelso's Choice frog to color in based on some of the Kelso's choices, and a draw a line from the picture of Kelso the frog doing the Kelso Choice on the right, written out. Kelso's Choices is a great conflict resolution framework that explains 9 different ways to solve small problems; walk away, talk it out, apologize, ignore, go to another game, wait and cool off, tell them to stop, share and take turns, and make a deal. These choices can teach students how to solve small problems by themselves, thus reducing the need for tattling. You can use these activities after teaching an SEL class on Kelso's choices, big and small problems, and which adult to tell if they are having a big problem. I teach students that if a situation is scary or unsafe, or someone is about to get hurt, they need to tell an adult and it becomes a big problem I also tell students that if they are having a small problem that simply will not go away using a Kelso's choice, they do need to go to an adult for guidance, such as a teacher, parent, babysitter, etc. Otherwise, if someone if cutting them in line, teasing them, taking a marker, not letting them play, not playing by the rules, or doing something to them that is frustrating or annoying, they can empower themselves to use a Kelso's Choice. Melody's Mystery Game-An SEL Cooperative Game for Kids

In this resource, students will work together to solve Melody's Mystery! Melody is an actress and has lost something at the Golden Globe Award ceremony. Students will need to decide what is missing, who took it and where it is. Students will work together cooperatively and problem solve together to solve this mystery. There are 18 clues to be passed around to a group of students (4-5 students works best) and then they will read out loud each clue. As they read the clues, the group will eliminate the suspects one by one and there is one person who will cross off the ones that are incorrect. This is a great game for students to play to practice listening skills, leadership skills, problem-solving skills and deductive skills. In this resource, you will get an engaging game like Apples To Apples. There are 36 strategy cards and 18 situation cards. This is an SEL game. Each person takes a turn with being the judge like Apples to Apples. It is important to make enough sets for the number of groups who will be playing. for example, I recommend at least 3-5 people playing together for each group. So if there are 20 students, then create at least 5 different sets of the cards, Then follow the directions for the game below: First, everyone gets 5 strategy cards. There is no revealing the cards to other players. Then one person is chosen to be the "judge" for the first round. I usually pick the oldest person to make it fair. The judge reveals the card to all and even can read the card out loud. The the other players choose one of their strategy cards to handle that particular situation. Then the judge decides which one they would use. Important; there is not right or wrong here, just what one person would do in that situation. Next the next player goes (usually counter clockwise) to who will be the judge. The person will reveal the situation and the other players will play their strategy card. Play as long as time allows. Next, you can print off the mindfulness coloring sheets for students to color and reinforce the idea or coloring mindfully when they are upset, frustrate, need some time alone, etc. There is a way to change the word and position of the word in the mindfulness coloring sheet.
