Area and Perimeter: Build a Zoo Activity
Students plan a new zoo by designing five exhibits — alligator, elephant, monkey cage, aquarium, and zebra — on grid paper to match a set of given requirements, such as "Alligator Exhibit: Perimeter- 30 units" or "Elephant Exhibit: One Side- 4 units, Other Side- 7 units." Three worksheet versions are included: a perimeter-only version, an area-only version, and a combined area-and-perimeter version, with different response columns for the same exhibit requirements. Area-only pages still include perimeter constraints, so students may need both area and perimeter reasoning. A fourth option links to a Google Slides version where students insert shapes to build a digital zoo layout and add images and measurements to each exhibit.
