Autumn Number Match Game Spot It Style Cards for Numbers 0–30 This autumn number game is built on the idea of the classic “Spot It” style, but instead of pictures, the focus here is on numbers. Students practice recognizing numbers from 0 up to 30 while playing against each other in a quick, visual matching activity. I first used it in my math centers in October, when the fall theme felt right, and it has been easy to bring out again each year. The resource includes 93 cards in total. There are three full decks of 31 cards each, and every two cards always share exactly one number in common. The decks come in three shapes—round, square, and hexagon—so you can choose what works best for your classroom. I usually cut one set of square cards for daily use because they are fastest to prepare, and then I keep the round set laminated for special occasions. The rules are simple. Each student gets a card. A card from the pile is placed in the middle, and everyone searches for the one number that appears on both. The first student to spot it calls it out and collects the card. The winner is the one with the most cards at the end. The pace keeps the game lively, and students naturally want to play more than once. What I like about this game is the flexibility. For beginners, I often reduce the range to numbers 0–10 so it feels manageable. Later I expand to 0–20 or the full 0–30. Some groups add their own rules, like playing in teams or keeping tally marks on a score sheet, which gives them extra practice with recording numbers. It works well as a math center, a partner game, or as an activity for early finishers. Because it takes only a few minutes to explain, I sometimes use it at the end of class when we have a little extra time. The autumn design makes it seasonal, but the math practice—recognizing and saying numbers—fits into any unit on counting and number sense. Preparation is easy: print the cards, cut them out, and laminate if you want them to last longer. I store mine in small envelopes so they are ready whenever I need them. Grades to Use With: These games can be used in almost any elementary classroom (grades 2-6). They are great for the following uses: - Morning/home-room warm-up - TOC back-up activities - To fill the 5 minutes before lunch or the end of the day - As a reward for small-group or one-to-one tutoring The four games are: - 4 Letter Word Game : Start with a 4-letter word on the paper/whiteboard. Players/teams take turns changing one letter at a time to make a new English word. Play until you are stuck or time runs out. - Guess My Number Game : Start with a range based on your students (ex: 1-20 for K, 1-100 for Gr 1-4, 1-200 for Gr 5-7). The teacher (or student if playing in pairs) thinks of a number in that range. The other student (or whole class) has exactly 5 questions of greater than or less than to narrow it down. After 5 questions, they must guess the number. - The Rhyme Game : Start with a word that has many rhymes. (For example: tent, rant, king, see, you.) Do NOT choose duck for obvious reasons. Each student (or each team) has two minutes to make a list of as many rhyming words as they can. Points are counted based on syllables. The longer the word, the more points. After two minutes, tally the scores to find the winner. - Categories: Start by writing 5 categories from the following options on the board: animals, cities, verbs, fruits, toys, pet names, countries, adjectives, beverages, colours, holidays, vehicles, movies, kitchen tools, flowers, books. Then choose one letter of the alphabet. Students get two minutes to think of a word for each category staring with that letter. Place Value Loop Cards

If you want to give students extra practice with place value, I have just the resource for you. What You Get: This is a set of Place Value Loop Cards that was designed for 4th and 5th grade students who are working on or have mastered place value with higher digit numbers. It may be a great fit for 3rd grade students. It also works well as a review for students. It is a 1-page printable. How To Implement This Resource: This is a game that is meant to be played as a whole group. Whenever you are able to carve out some time during your math instruction, students will love getting a chance to play this game. The game will flow much smoother for a group of students who have a good understanding of place value. These Loop Cards mimic the game I Have, Who Has? You will print off the entire page and should laminate it for durability. Cut out each of the cards. There are 24 cards included. All cards have to be used for the game to work. If you have a classroom of 24 students, there will be an even distribution. If you have less than 24 students, you can take the extra cards and join in on the game or you can give more than 1 card to your students who have fully mastered this skill. Whoever has the START card will begin the game. Students will continue with the cards by saying the number they have and asking the question on their card to find the next number. This game will continue until they have reached the person with the END card. You can store cards in a small plastic baggie or hole punch them and place them on a binder ring. I hope you enjoy! Simply shuffle one of the sets and give each student one card. Give the students a moment to determine their card’s value. A handful of Lego pieces are placed in the center (number of pieces depends on the number of players and the intended length of play). Players take turns spinning the spinner and representing the fraction they land on using two pieces of Lego. The game is over when no one can make a fraction. The player with the most Lego pieces wins! This game can be modified for different age groups based on the fractions presented on the spinner. Bank Account Board Game: A Fun, Financial Literacy Lesson for Addition, Subtraction, or Integer Practice (Grades 3-7) Do you want to give your students real world math practice for addition and subtraction up to 4 digits? Do you want to show them how the math they learn in the classroom is helpful in everyday life? Do you want to find a way to have them practice loads of math without even noticing? Then this financial literacy board game is perfect for you! How to Use: Print the two page handout double-sided for each student. Go through the bank account vocabulary together as a class. Then give your students time to try to match the vocabulary words to the clues. Next, talk about what actions help your bank balance and what actions hurt it, and try to think of more examples as a class. Now you are ready for the game! Print a game board for each group of 2-4 students, have six-sided dice, and small objects to use as counters. The game’s main objective is to educate students about financial literacy concepts such as spending (withdrawing) and saving (depositing) money within the context of a bank account. Each child takes turns rolling a six-sided die while using counters on the board. Students start with a $300 bank balance, and each turn leads them to a realistic scenario that increases or decreases their balance. I encourage students to use a scrap piece of paper to keep a running tally of their balance throughout the game. Although rare, some sequences of turns can result in negative balances. If this occurs, you can help your students use integers to calculate a negative balance OR create a rule that students can not have a balance below zero, so they can not complete that action and must miss. a turn. Grades to Use With: This game is perfect for students in grades 3-7 who are practicing adding and subtracting with numbers into the thousands.
