It's a simple dice game that actually uses a fair bit of strategy- so your students can start to figure out ways to win as they play more than once. They will be calculating the perimeter of a variety of compound complex or composite shapes. Students can also learn more by calculating the area of the shapes they create throughout the game! A sample round of the game is included to teach it easily to your students! How to Use: 1) Player One picks a starting spot. They roll and draw a line the length of their roll. 2) Player Two begins their turn at the end of Player One’s line. They roll and draw a line the length of their roll. 3) Once the perimeter of the shape is over forty units, the first player to complete the shape wins the game! 4) If you can not close the shape with the rolls given, it will be a tie. 5) BONUS: Both players can calculate the area of the complex compound or composite shape. Grades to Use With: This game is designed for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th grade who are learning about calculating perimeter using whole numbers on a variety of complex compound or composite shapes. It is also a great way to develop strategy skills and even talk about probability (what is the chance I will get the roll I need to complete this shape?). Game: Battleship Coordinate on Cartesian Plane If you're an educator aiming to help your students gain a solid understanding of coordinate grid skills, this teaching resource - the "Battleship Coordinate on Cartesian Plane" game - is perfect for you. This engaging game is designed to provide crucial practice in a fun and interactive way. It's most suitable for students from Grade 4 through Grade 7. Imagine having an exciting tool that brings together mathematical concepts like geometry and graphing through a beloved game of battleship. Students have to strategically mark down the location of their ships using pencil, but there's an instructive twist - they must record the coordinates of their ship on the left-hand side in order to continue playing. This consistent notation promotes active learning and reinforces their understanding in a non-monotonous manner. What makes this resource even more student-friendly, is its double-sided print recommendation with reminders about (x, y) coordinates at the top page on the backside. Fold it into their printable battleship board, learners can only glimpse at this cheat sheet – maintaining gameplay mystery while providing much-needed help during play! This versatile Battleship Coordinate can be used within traditional classroom settings as well as homeschooling environments for individual or group learning sessions. This Math-themed product comes as a downloadable PDF file making it easily accessible and readily printable whenever needed by educators. Given these factors, our 'Battleship Coordinate on Cartesian Plane' game proves itself to be not just amicable educational fun but also an effective strategy for consolidating complex math concepts among young learners who might often have trouble visualizing spatial elements and working around plotting points. Bingo Game - Add and Subtact Fractions Including Mixed Numbers

Bingo Game - Add and Subtact Fractions Including Mixed Numbers
Math, Fractions, Grade 5, Activities, Games

Two Bingo Games for your students to have fun practicing adding and subtracting fractions including mixed numbers. Instructions include: Have students to make a 4 x 4 game board. They will fill in the answers in random order. This way everyone has a different board but all of the answers. Put up the first 2 questions. When all students finish #1, you can change to the second page, which still has #2 but also #3 for those that have also finished #2. This allows some students to work ahead when ready. When everyone has finished #2, move to the next screen, which has #3 and #4 as some students will be ready for #4. Continue in this way. Students can use a highlighter to mark their answers. Use a different color for each game. (Don’t have them completely mark out their answers with pen or pencil in the first game because they will use this same board in the second game.) Students MUST show their work on paper to get credit for a BINGO. For the problems that don’t have work to show, they must explain their answer on paper. The first game uses questions #1-8. In a regular size class there should be 5-6 bingos after this many questions. You can start the second game #9-16 or save that for another class time. Just make sure students save their board because both games use the same board. This skill corresponds to the 5th Grade Math Common Core Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.) This 20 slide PowerPoint contains two bingo games of 8 questions each. Students will randomly fill in their own bingo boards with the given answers. All students will have every answer but in a different order on their bingo card. This way if a student works a problem and the answer is not on their card they know they have made an error. They will use the same card for both games so they must mark answers differently for each game. Detailed instructions are given in the file. The answer key is on the final slide of the PowerPoint. I usually give candy for bingos. Bingo has always been one of the best ways I have found for student engagement.
