Greatest Common Factor and Distributive Property - Scoffolded Practice

Greatest Common Factor and Distributive Property - Scoffolded Practice
Math, Algebra, Grade 6, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This file contains a practice sheet for 6th grade math students to factor a common factor which leads to a distributive property problem. The practice is scaffold for students. The first few problems give a step-by-step guide for students to complete the problem: 1) find the factors of a, 2) find the factors of b, 3) find the common factors of a and b, 4) find the greatest common factor of a and b, 5) fill in the blanks to factor the expression (write a distributive property problem). This skill is a pre-requisite for expanding and simplifying expressions which leads to factoring, solving equations, solving word problems, and many more advanced topics. This covers the standard: Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. The answer key is included.

Put-Down SEL Presentation

Put-Down SEL Presentation
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans, Worksheets & Printables, Writing Prompts

The Put-Down SEL Lesson An educational resource designed to instruct students on understanding and managing verbal and nonverbal put-downs. This comprehensive teaching tool is suitable for Grades 3 through 6, and includes an interactive presentation combined with innovative handouts. Presentation Structure A seven-slide presentation focuses on the rudimentary yet significant issue among school-age children - the use of disheartening words or gestures towards each another. During this spirited lesson, students as a group identify what constitutes a put-down in both verbal and nonverbal forms. Lively Discussions & Engaging Activities Educators trigger discussions by reading passages from selected books that link to the theme of put-downs. The Crumpled Heart activity provides a metaphorical representation of the impact of hurtful words or actions. Multimedia elements like video clips offer opportunities for whole group involvement, with each student counting instances of 'put-downs' in media content; this aims at increasing awareness about harmful remarks found in everyday media consumption. 'Tally Put-Down Homework' empowers children beyond classroom boundaries; students tally instances showcasing verbal or non-verbal put-downs from TV shows or books they interact with at home. Included Handouts & Focus Areas This PowerPoint-based package includes three detailed handouts catering to different learning styles while encouraging active participation during class activities and quiet times alike. Under special resources, the plan focuses explicitly on Social Emotional Learning (SEL). The Put-Down SEL Lesson integrates dynamic teaching techniques geared towards creating an inclusive environment fostering empathy among students - making it a valuable addition to the repertoire for public school teachers and homeschoolers alike. Order of Operations with Fractions and Decimals Coloring Activity

Order of Operations with Fractions and Decimals Coloring Activity

This enhances their ability to break down problems into manageable parts, improving problem-solving skills in general. Fractions and decimals are commonly used in everyday life (e.g., in financial calculations, measurements, cooking, and shopping). A solid understanding of how to apply order of operations in these contexts helps students develop practical life skills. The coloring key is included.

Multiplication of Fractions in Word Problems - 2 sheets

Multiplication of Fractions in Word Problems - 2 sheets
Common Core, Math, Fractions, Grade 5, Worksheets & Printables

This file contains 2 practice sheets of 8 problems each for students to practice word problems using fractions. Students are asked to show their thinking with models, equations, and words. This covers the 5th grade math skill of: Solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Word problems require students to apply their understanding of fractions in real-world contexts. This helps deepen their conceptual understanding, moving beyond simple memorization to true comprehension of how fractions work, especially in multiplication scenarios. By solving word problems, students learn how to use fractions in everyday situations (e.g., sharing, scaling recipes, or determining portions). This connects math to real life, making it more relevant and meaningful. The strategies used to solve fraction word problems can often be applied to other mathematical operations and even other subjects. For example, once students are comfortable with fraction multiplication word problems, they may find it easier to work with decimals, ratios, or percentages.

Changing Negative Self-Talk Into Positive Self-Talk SEL Presentation

Changing Negative Self-Talk Into Positive Self-Talk SEL Presentation
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Elementary, Middle School, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Coloring Pages, Worksheets

In this Google Slide SEL presentation, students will learn how to change their negative thoughts into positive ones. There is a quote at the beginning of the slide show that says "Watch what you tell yourself, you're likely to believe it." by Russ Kyle. The students can share what they think this quote means to them. Then there is an educational slide on the value of changing their negative thoughts into positive ones. Then the students will have 12 slides to practice changing negative thoughts into realistic and positive ones. They can do this as a turn and talk with a partner, whole group instruction, or in their table groups. You can decide the best approach for your students. After they practice 12 different thoughts, the students will participate in an elimination game using a playing deck of cards. You will randomly pull a red or black card and students need to declare which one they think you will pull before you pull it. There are directions on the slide notes. The goal is for them to say out loud to the person next to them about which one they guess is going to get pulled for their own accountability. Ask students to pay attention to their own self-talk during this game. This game is based on luck only. You can play the game as many times as you want as time allows. Lastly, the students will get to color a mindfulness coloring sheet of a brain with their own name on it. You can make as many handouts as you have students in your class. Simply double click on the name and change it to the names of students in your class and press enter. Print off as many copies as you need. The first segment features seven quick question image prompts intended to engage student thought processes - these can be conducted via stand-up/sit-down methods or simple hand raising. This is followed by an interactive survey where participants score their answers based on personal feelings, fostering open dialogue among peers about their choices. Detailed answer sheets are provided post-survey; these aim at easy comprehension by all participants, thus making life skill education seamless! The final slide inducts additional resources - links that guide students towards strategies employed for developing optimistic thinking over pessimistic attitudes.
