Each passage blends English Language Arts skills with accurate science content that supports NGSS classroom practice. Ideal for interdisciplinary learning in ELA and Science. Suitable for Grade 9 review, too! What Is Included? There are (3) informational passages: How Sound Travels: Sound starts with a vibration that squeezes and stretches nearby matter, sending a wave through air, water, or solid material. The ear and brain team up to turn those moving pressures into the pitch and loudness we hear, which is why sound needs a medium. Seeing Color: Reflection, Absorption, Refraction: Color shows up only when light hits an object and some wavelengths bounce back to the eye. Materials reflect, absorb, or bend light differently, so a prism, a black backpack, or even dim lighting can change what we see. Cameras: From Dark Rooms to Smartphones: A simple darkened box with a tiny opening once projected faint, upside-down scenes onto a wall. Adding lenses, mirrors, film, and later digital sensors turned that idea into cameras for art, news, and everyday life, ending with phones that can snap and share in seconds. Farm Animals: Guided Reading Level P with Lesson Plan
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Language Development, Social Studies, Life Sciences, Economics, Pre-Reading, Grade 2, 3, 4, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments, Lesson Plans
This Farm Animals (level p) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Farm Animals Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Life Science Primary Topic: How common farm animals live and help people Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): P What This Book Teaches Best Describes key traits and behaviors of farm animals (for example, cows digest tough grasses; pigs use mud to regulate temperature; goats climb steep surfaces). Explains how different farm animals support people , such as animals raised for milk, meat, eggs, wool, or work (pulling plows, transporting goods). Builds understanding of animal groups and social behavior , including flocks and a “pecking order” (social hierarchy). Highlights physical features linked to survival , such as sheep’s wide field of vision to spot predators and donkeys’ large ears helping them stay cool and hear well. Introduces science vocabulary tied to the text’s concepts, including domesticated, ruminants, keratin, descendants, and hierarchy . Learning Goals Students can describe how at least three farm animals are raised or used, using details from the text. Students can explain what the text says makes cows ruminants and what their digestive system allows them to do. Students can explain why the text says pigs use mud and what mud helps them do. Students can describe how chickens live in groups and what “pecking order” means in the text. Students can identify animal body parts mentioned (hooves, feathers, webbed feet, horns) and describe what the text says they help the animal do. Students can compare two animals from the book by stating one similarity and one difference based on text evidence. Key Vocabulary From the Text ruminants — animals that chew food again and digest grass. hierarchy — an order that shows who is in charge. keratin — a hard material that makes hooves and fingernails. descendants — animals that come from earlier animals in a family line. domesticated — animals raised by people, living with or near humans. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What farm animals do you already know, and what do you think they do on a farm? Comprehension questions: What does the text say cows’ digestive system helps them do that some other animals cannot do? Comprehension questions: Why does the text say pigs use mud? Comprehension questions: What does the text say llamas can do because of their height and alert nature? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. QA notes on support pages: Some support content adds details not stated in the passage (e.g., “kill harmful germs” explanation for 160°F; “food trucks/home kitchens/cookouts” as burger locations). What This Lesson Teaches Best Defines what a hamburger is by describing key parts (bun/roll, patty, toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion, sauces). Explains why fully cooking ground beef matters and names a specific safe temperature (160°F) and a tool cooks use (food thermometer). Uses text features (section headings) to organize information into categories (what it is, what makes it a burger, where it came from). Introduces variation within a category by listing different patty types (chicken, turkey, fish, bean, veggie) and different buns/toppings. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. The materials are easy to print, easy to explain, and require no setup. They work well for whole-class teaching, partner work, or independent study.

Digital Privacy & Security Guide for Non-Techies Book
Science, Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Research, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Resources, Career, Life Studies, Leadership, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Teacher Tools, Assessments, Lesson Plans, Presentations, Workbooks, Worksheets & Printables, Writing Prompts, Word Problems, Activities, Projects
It is an unfortunate reality that one single leak of your passwords can lead to the theft of thousands of dollars from your savings account. It is also a frightening truth that your Smart TV can watch everything you do, and that Deepfake technology exists that is able to imitate your voice with ease. The above facts alone leave an overwhelming amount of people in a vulnerable position in relation to their personal digital security. This is the purpose of the 278-page "Digital Fear is Real" guide. This guide was created with the sole purpose of providing an in-depth, complete, and easy-to-understand reference tool for every aspect of your digital life. This tool covers everything, from passwords and mobile devices to social media, smart home technology, child safety issues, financial fraud, AI-driven threats, and estate planning. This guide goes beyond the typical frightening articles that do not provide real answers or to the overly technical books that require a computer science degree to understand. This book provides you with a complete step-by-step system that will allow you to protect yourself without having to spend a lot of time to achieve this goal. You'll Learn: * How to use password managers and passkeys * How to set up two-factor authentication to effectively stop hackers * How to secure your router and home network with six easy steps * How to protect your children from predators, cyber-bullying, and "sharing" * What you need to do to recover from identity theft and create an actionable recovery plan * How to install and use safe communication channels such as Signal, VPNs, Tor, and encrypted email * A 30-day privacy transformation plan to secure your digital world In addition to all the information contained in the guide, there are also many charts comparing different items, checklists, infographics, and a comprehensive appendix that contains a list of tools that every computer user needs to have. Why Parents (And Schools) are all in: Chapters Addressing the Child Safety Issues that Affect Parents and Adults in General, Including… Cyberbullying, online predators, sharenting, and children's digital footprint – all described in clear, no-nonsense, actionable terms. No Technical Experience Needed – These Chapters are written specifically for non-technical readers, with plenty of "common" language used in both chapters to facilitate understanding by teachers and parents who want to better protect their children from online dangers. Classroom and Family Resources Ready for Use – Each chapter is filled with checklists, comparison charts, infographics, and an overall 30 Day Action Plan that is great for either teaching curriculum or having family discussions at home. The Chapters Address Many of the Most Urgent Problems Facing Today's Children Including AI Voice Cloning, Deep Fakes, and TikTok Data Collection... so that they are prepared for whatever potential risk they may encounter this year. Create Lifelong Digital Citizens: Instead of merely providing a list of rules to abide by; through an ongoing mindset established throughout the children in their formative years/education process, parents will help their children learn to make thoughtful and responsible decisions independently of parents or other adults. Target Groups of Students: The book coversmost of the standard, foundational content and structure with both foundationaland advanced information. Have you been looking for a SEL resource that events something new with your young students? Have you noticed that old worksheets do nothing to measure a child's emotional intelligence and only offer a chance to measure his literacy skills? Help your students discover their emotional world with the help of the Gratitude and Empathy Visual Journal, which is based in research and created especially for preschoolers and children in the first two grades. This unique program helps children get around the first difficulties that they experience during their literacy acquisition by focusing on what they do best - making sense of their surroundings through drawings. Following the principles of the Visual-Affective Mapping technology, the low-text high-art worksheets that this program offers allow children to safely explore complicated emotional states such as empathy, gratitude, perspectives, and compassion. Instead of trying to put their feeling into words, the students are guided to express their emotions through drawings. This is not simply an art project; this is a good pedagogical device suitable for teachers, social workers, and parents. The contents of the package include: Educator's guide (10 pages): This is a full introduction into psychological basis and methodology that includes "Visual Epistemology of Emotion", examples in case studies, and some educator's insights on what was done. 7 Student Workbooks (15 pages): These print-ready student workbooks are designed for making work more engaging while presenting simple prompts: Emotion Detective (Identifying Emotions) My Gratitude Backpack (Intangible Gratitude) Looking Through Another's Window (Perspective-Taking) "Ouch to Ahh" First Aid Kit (Compassion) Friendship Recipe (Prosocial Skills) Weather Report of My Heart (Emotional Granularity) Magic Magnifying Glass (Mindful Gratitude) Visuals & Teacher Resources (8 pages): CASEL Framework Map: For learners to see how this resource corresponds with the main competencies of SEL. Comprehensive Interpretative Answer Key: Outstanding material that allows to interpret student figures easily. Detailed Instruction Manual: Guide for using E.A.S.E. protocol. Trauma-Informed Exercise Guide: Advice on making environment emotionally comfortable and reacting to delicate cases. Motor Deficit Strategies: Useful advice on making sure every child can work on this task. Help your kids have the basic empathy and true gratitude. Download this impactful SEL resource now! Several Reasons Why It Is Popular Among Parents/Schools: All Learners Welcome: The program makes it easy for everyone including pre-readers, struggling readers and even people with dyslexia or dysgraphia to take part in the learning process and share their understanding of emotions. Supported by Research and Designed to Work: The program is more than just a group of prompts based on drawing, it has been designed according to the principles of child psychology, CASEL, and other educational programs that follow a clear teaching methodology. Allows to Understand Children Better: Since it is based on drawing, it is able to give teachers and parents unique insights into the feelings and emotions of children which cannot be seized through their academic written answers. Complete and immediately available: It is a full program that already covers the areas of target audiences and has available teachers’ guides, answer keys, ideas about dealing with trauma and differentiation. Encourages More Intensive Understanding: The program contains not only self-awareness but many useful tools that allow improving kindness and collaboration in the class. Classes for the Target Learners: Based on a thorough examination of the language, messages, and clear information presented in the PDF, the identified target groups are as follows: Primary Target Group: Students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades (ages 5-8 years). The PDF continuously emphasizes K-2 levels of learners, as well as uses "low-text" format, which perfectly suits beginner readers.
