If you are an art teacher, I am sure you are always on the hunt for new and engaging activity lessons for your art students. You want to make sure students have meaningful lessons that they can learn from and output knowledge simultaneously. This resource fits right in! This is a Pottery Lesson for students to take part in. The objective of this lesson is for students to learn about different types of pottery and then be able to create their coil pot. This is a resource that can be incorporated into an art class for middle school or high school students. It is a 22-slide PowerPoint that begins with showing students 3 different YouTube videos to expose them to 3 types of pottery: -Wheel Throwing -Pinch Pot -Coil Pot Students will be given their assignment on the next slide: Students will be creating their own coil pot using appropriate coil pottery techniques with a focus on form, texture, color, and value. This lesson will only be working on building their pot and can focus on painting another day. There are a variety of topics to follow once the assignment description is given to ensure students are prepared for the task. The topics included are: -Texture -Form -Color -Value For each topic, there is a brief description along with a visual example. That will be followed by 3 questions per each topic. This is a One Point Perspective Art Lesson for students to take part in. The objective of this lesson is for students to learn understand what one point perspective is, how to apply harmony and unit focus to their art, and to create a multimedia 1-point perspective art piece. This is a resource that is most appropriate for middle school and high school students in an art classroom. It is a 38-slide PowerPoint that begins with a review for what harmony is and what unity is. Students will then be introduced to 1-point perspective following this format: -What is 1 Point Perspective? -History of this art form -Perspective -Elements of perspective -3 visual examples that show the original image and the outline of perspective being applied The next portion of the presentation will give students the opportunity to apply their learning through practice. Each slide will walk students through how to draw their own 1-point perspective on a blank piece of paper. There are 8 steps for students to complete. Upon completion of this practice, students will be tasked with: Creating a multimedia 1-point perspective art piece using recycled cardboard, recycled magazines, and any other materials they choose! Students are welcome to get a creative as they would like, as long as their piece uses this principal, and demonstrates harmony and unity. This is an editable presentation with the objective of teaching students about the various elements of art and having them demonstrate their understanding. The lesson begins by introducing each element of art: --Line --Texture --Shape --Form --Color --Value --Space For each element, its first slide will provide a detailed explanation and a visual. Its next slide will have an artwork and 3 accompanying questions. You will be able to assess students’ understanding of the element based on their ability to correctly answer the comprehension questions. Following the learning, students will be given this assignment: Think about your personal goals for this year. Choose one goal, and summarize it in one or two words (e.g. focus, time-management, organization, etc.) You will be creating a poster with this word, using any design of your choice. Be creative - there are no rules! Demonstrate your understanding of the Elements of Art by incorporating them into your poster - all 7 should be evident. Digital Portraits Lesson

This is a Digital Portraits Lesson for your middle school art students. This presentation will begin with 3 questions for students to ponder, discuss and answer: What do you know about digital art? How is it created? What is a vector image? How is that different from a Raster (Bitmap) image? Students will get a chance to learn about each of these art forms in further detail through descriptions, explanations, and visual examples (with credit to the artists that created them). With each artwork example slide, you can allow students to form groups and discuss what they see and how techniques were applied to these digital portraits. This is also a great opportunity for whole group discussion. Student’s assignment will be: “You will be creating a digital vector portrait of yourself. If digital art is entirely brand new to you, you will watch this tutorial (you have permission to speed it up) and create your own digital portrait using Google Drawing. If you are experienced with digital art, I challenge you to use Google Drawing (an incredibly simple platform in comparison to what you probably use) to create your vector portrait. Take a look at the tutorial above to get some ideas for strategies. However, if you choose to use your own digital platform to create your portrait, it must still be in the “vector art” style, and must have some additional creative elements like the few portrait examples towards the end in the previous slides. Once you’re finished, submit your work as a Google Drawing file/link in the Google Classroom and complete the attached reflection. Additionally, save the image from the app, and set it as your Profile Picture on Google.” A scoring rubric is included.
