Do you wish to prepare your students with the essential skills needed to thrive in higher education, employment and life? Revolutionise your classroom and develop your students with Power Skills: The Framework for Collaboration And Problem Solving. This well-developed curriculum has a 35 page learning resource which provides a robust, actionable plan for successfully mastering collaboration and innovation rather than simply relying on making vague references to “soft” skills. This programme is based on best practices found in the areas of agile software development, professional engineering and high-pressure crisis management, as well as many others and not only demonstrates to students what type of thinking is required, but also encourages how they think collaboratively with their colleagues. Through in-depth case studies including the rescue of the Thai soccer team from the cave and an F1 team at Ferrari, students will witness the application of these skills and be motivated to implement them into their own lives. What Can You Find Inside THIS Game Changing Resource? The phenomenal game-changing resource is fully developed, print-and-go on 3 levels/phases: #1 - Core Content/Theory (10 Pages) = A comprehensive look at the elements of high performance team development - These frameworks include: Psychological Safety = Creating a trusting and safe environment promotes a willingness to take risks First Principles & Divergent/Convergent Thinking = Deconstruct issues to create creative solutions Cognitive and Affective Conflict = Disagreeing constructively without taking it personally Agile Methodology & Iterative Design = Failure is a data point for improvement #2 - Student Workbook (10 Challenging & Rigorous Worksheets) = Worksheets that use real world scenarios that allow students to apply theory from Phase 1. The ideal use of this resource is within: • High School English, Business or Leadership Class settings • Project-Based Learning (PBL) units • AP and IB programs • Gifted and Talented or Enrichment courses • Advisory and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs • Preparing students to collaborate in the "real-world" and for 21st century careers. Care for groups of students? Start developing true leaders instead with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate through complex issues, create innovative ideas, and work together collaboratively to fulfill their role as Responsible Adults. Become a catalyst for every student by downloading their Power Skills today! Keywords: Project Based Learning, Group Project, Collaborative Skills, Teamwork, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, High School, Leadership, Social- Emotional Learning, 21st Century Skills, Agile Methodologies, Design Thinking, Student Workbook, Digital Resource, High School English, Business Class, STEM, STEAM. What Schools and Parents Appreciate About It: This program develops "real-world" experiences for students, because it teaches students the most sought-after skills for top universities/employers — collaboration, problem-solving and leadership skills. This program can take the chaos of group projects and create effective teamwork, as it teaches students how to manage conflict, delegate and hold each other accountable, thereby decreasing frustration for both students and their teachers. Students will learn to develop critical thinking and resilience through in-depth analysis of complicated situations through case studies, and by analysing barriers to success, they learn to anticipate future barriers, and the learning experiences enhance their ability to develop and implement strategic plans. This program contains a complete, ready-to-use unit with all elements for no prep for teaching educators — including detailed theories, worksheets, visual resources and comprehensive teacher guides to support educators in teaching these essential skills with confidence. Target Classes of Attendees (Students): The target audience for the worksheets can be classified as follows: 1. Primary Target: High School Students (Grades 10-12). The worksheets contain advanced vocabulary and concepts presented in detailed scenarios appropriate for Grade 10-12 students who are preparing for or currently enrolled in AP, IB, Honors, or Gifted/Talented programs. The content, therefore, would be too complex for younger students (Grades 9 and below) or students in Special Education; whereas, the content is sufficiently challenging for 8+, 12+ grade-level of students but the activities/situations are not directly related to those students. 2. Secondary Target: First-Year College/University Students. The worksheets could be used as supplemental materials for freshman seminar courses, introductory business/engineering courses, and any program that emphasizes group projects. 3. Niche Target: Teacher Professional Development. The frameworks included in this document are designed specifically for teachers who want to improve their own collaborative working practices with their own departments or other collaborative groups via Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Are your students tired? Do they struggle with morning fatigue, yet stay glued to their screens late into the night? It's the paradox of modern adolescence. This comprehensive, project-based learning (PBL) module transforms their struggle into a powerful scientific investigation. Turn Students into Scientists with This Hands-On Health Project! Instead of just telling students that "screens are bad for sleep," this resource empowers them to prove it to themselves. "The Screen Time & Sleep Experiment" is a rigorous, 4-week unit that guides students through an N-of-1 trial—a personal experiment where they are both the researcher and the subject! Students will learn the deep neurobiology behind sleep (melatonin, suprachiasmatic nucleus, ipRGCs) and then apply it by tracking their own data. They will use detailed logs to correlate evening screen time with critical metrics like Sleep Onset Latency (SOL) and Morning Energy Levels . This isn't just a worksheet; it's a journey of self-discovery that builds critical life skills. What's Included in This 36-Page Turnkey Resource? Part 1: The Empirical Approach to Sleep Hygiene (11 Pages): A detailed, student-facing guide explaining the science of circadian rhythms, melatonin suppression, photic vs. cognitive arousal, and intervention strategies. Part 2: Student Workbook (16 Pages): Features 10 detailed worksheets that guide students through every phase of their experiment—from establishing a baseline to tracking interventions (software filters, blue-light glasses), analyzing data, and creating a sustainable personal sleep protocol. Part 3: Visuals & Teacher Resources (9 Pages): Everything you need to facilitate the project with confidence. This section includes: High-resolution conceptual diagrams (flowcharts, scatter plots). A comprehensive, fill-in-the-blank Answer Key. A detailed Teacher Implementation Guide with a 4-week pacing plan, advice on navigating subjective data, and strategies for ensuring student privacy. Why This Project is a Game-Changer for Your Classroom: Relevant & Engaging: Tackles a real-world issue that directly impacts every student's daily life, health, and academic performance. Promotes Scientific Literacy: Students practice the scientific method, collect and analyze quantitative data, identify confounding variables, and distinguish correlation from causation. Cross-Curricular: Perfect for Health, Biology, AP Psychology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and even Statistics classes. Builds Digital Citizenship & SEL: Encourages self-regulation, mindfulness about technology use, and empowers students to take control of their own well-being. Give your students the "aha!" moment they need to understand the invisible mechanics of their own biology. Equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital age in a healthy, productive way. Download this print-and-go resource today! Keywords: Sleep Hygiene, Screen Time, Blue Light, Circadian Rhythm, Health, High School, Biology, AP Psychology, Project-Based Learning (PBL), Data Tracking, Scientific Method, Melatonin, Digital Citizenship, Health and Wellness, Student Experiment, Lab Report. Fosters Self-Responsibility: By using their own data, students see the direct consequences of their habits, leading to intrinsic motivation for change that is far more effective than parental nagging. Teaches Critical 21st-Century Skills: This goes beyond biology; it teaches data literacy, critical thinking, self-regulation, and how to create a healthy work-life-tech balance. It’s a Complete, Turnkey Solution: The resource is a comprehensive package with a student guide, workbook, and a full teacher implementation guide, making it easy for any educator to run a high-quality, impactful project. Gliders Reading Comprehension Passage - Cored Ed Encyclopedia

Gliders Reading Comprehension Passage - Cored Ed Encyclopedia
ELA, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Technology, Pre-Reading, Language Development, Physics, History, Social Studies, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Writing Prompts, Assessments, Quizzes and Tests, Quizzes, Lesson Plans

This gliders reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Quick pause—thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Download links and encyclopedia index available here. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. Do some, do none, do all, completely optional - but you will feel reassured knowing every possibility is planned for. Includes summary writting question and additional facts. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions, written response questions have sample answers, vocabulary answers and if there is a summary question then a sample summary will be provided as well. Lesson Plan Included Customized lesson plan for this lesson is included. Lesson Snapshot Title: Gliders Genre: Nonfiction (informational text) Subject: Science (flight/engineering) Primary Topic: How gliders fly using lift and launch methods Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): Q What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains what makes a glider different from a small airplane (no motor; quiet flight; “trade height for distance”). Describes how gliders get into the sky (help at the start, including being towed; later mentions aerotows and winches). Teaches how moving air helps a glider climb—especially rising warm air (“thermals”) and wind pushed upward at a ridge or hill. Shows how design features support gliding (long, narrow wings; smooth body; low drag to lose little energy). Connects gliders to early flight experiments through Otto Lilienthal’s repeated testing and “fly hill.” Learning Goals Students will describe how a glider is similar to and different from a small airplane. Students will explain how a glider usually starts flying using details from the text. Students will identify two kinds of lift described in the passage and tell how each helps a glider climb. Students will explain why long, narrow wings and low drag help a glider glide efficiently. Students will describe how gliders and launch methods changed over time, using examples from the text. Students will explain how spoilers or airbrakes help with landing safely. Key Vocabulary From the Text cockpit — where the pilot sits and reads instruments. thermals — rising columns of warm air. drag — air resistance that slows motion. aerotows — launches where an airplane tows the glider. spoilers — panels that help a glider slow down and descend. This batteries reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. COMPANION VIDEO NOW AVAILABLE (EMBEDDED AFTER PREVIEW PICTURES IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION) Quick pause—thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Lesson Snapshot Title: Batteries Genre: Nonfiction (informational passage) Subject: Science (Physical Science / Electricity) Primary Topic: How batteries store energy and changed over time Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): T What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains what a battery does and how it powers devices when connected in a circuit (electrons moving through a wire to light a bulb or spin a motor). Introduces key electricity ideas in context (plus/minus ends guiding the “flow” the right way; current moving for a while). Gives a clear mini-history of batteries, from 1800’s “voltaic pile” to later “wet cells,” “dry cells,” and rechargeable batteries. Connects science to real-world uses, from small watch batteries to lithium-ion packs and room-size battery banks for the power grid. Highlights responsible use: batteries don’t last forever, so careful charging and recycling can help protect people and the planet. Learning Goals Identify what the passage says is stored inside a battery and what makes electricity move in a circuit. Explain, using the text, how electrons help a flashlight make a bright beam. Describe what Alessandro Volta built in 1800 and what materials were stacked. Compare “wet cells” and “dry cells” using details from the passage about carrying and spilling. Explain what makes a rechargeable battery different, based on how the passage describes “pushing” chemical changes backward. Describe how batteries are used today, including small devices and large battery banks on the power grid. Key Vocabulary From the Text electrons — tiny particles that can move through a wire. circuit — a path electricity travels through to do work. current — electricity moving steadily in a path. rechargeable — able to be filled up again with electricity. recycling — using materials again instead of throwing them away. Dmitri Mendeleev – The Man Behind the Periodic Table Comprehension Activities A short reading and comprehension activity for science classes (PDF + H5P) ⚗️📘 A printable and digital resource for grades 7–10 science and cross-curricular teaching 🧪🧠 This resource introduces students to Dmitri Mendeleev, the chemist who first organized the periodic table in a way that allowed scientists to predict the discovery of new elements. His approach wasn’t just about sorting known facts – it was about seeing patterns and thinking ahead. That story can really bring chemistry to life for students. The material includes a short, student-friendly informational text along with structured follow-up tasks. It works well in a chemistry unit focusing on the periodic table or chemical elements, but it can also be used in interdisciplinary contexts or as part of a history-of-science project. Included in this resource: A brief reading text about Mendeleev and his scientific achievements A worksheet to help students summarize key information in a profile format Quiz questions with an answer key Two optional extensions: – Students write their own questions about the text – Exchange questions with a partner and respond Formats: – PDF (print and digital use) – DOCX (editable, without images) – H5P (for digital platforms, text-only) How to use it in class: I’ve used this type of material both as an introduction to the periodic table and as a filler activity when students need something structured but manageable. The quiz can be done individually or discussed as a group, and the partner tasks work well for early finishers. The H5P version is especially helpful in digital classrooms or for homework: students can check their answers independently and work at their own pace. You don’t need much prep. Just print or upload the files and you’re ready to go. Have fun exploring the world of science with your students! Warmly, Lernfitness Did You Know?
