ELL Academic Vocabulary Grade 5 word search, scramble and crossword pu

ELL Academic Vocabulary Grade 5 word search, scramble and crossword pu
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

ELL Academic Vocabulary Grade 5 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this academic vocabulary puzzle set for my 5th graders during our reading and writing block. The kids could do the work but had no idea what words like "analyze," "summarize," or "infer" meant when I gave them directions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like analyze, summarize, infer, evaluate, explain, describe, compare, contrast, identify, locate, define, state, retell, and support. I also included a few key content-area terms like main idea, detail, sequence, cause, effect, and fact/opinion because they show up in every subject. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the direction words finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between "summarize" and "retell." The crossword I use for partners or as a warm-up before a lesson. I added a couple simple checkmark, pencil, and book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade, especially for English learners who need extra exposure to academic language. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word and use it in a sentence on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Courage and Bravery word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Courage and Bravery word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Courage and Bravery word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this courage and bravery puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our social-emotional learning unit. The kids could name superheroes but had no idea what words like courage, brave, or afraid meant when we talked about being brave in real life. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like courage, brave, afraid, scared, try, stand up, speak up, help, protect, brave heart, and strong. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the courage vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether being brave means you aren't scared. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple lion, shield, and superhero drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one brave thing they have done on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Shopping Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this shopping vocabulary puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our community and economics unit. The kids loved going to the store but had no idea what words like sale, price, or receipt meant when we talked about buying things. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like store, shop, buy, sell, price, cost, sale, discount, checkout, cashier, money, wallet, bag, receipt, and credit card. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the shopping vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a sale and a discount are the same thing. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple shopping bag, coin, and receipt drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a pretend shopping list on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Immigration in America word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Immigration in America word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Immigration in America word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this immigration puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our social studies unit. The kids knew their families came from somewhere else but had no idea what words like immigrant, Ellis Island, or Statue of Liberty meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like immigrant, immigration, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Europe, Asia, Mexico, journey, steerage, inspection, citizen, culture, tradition, freedom, and opportunity. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally make sense. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple ship and statue drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one reason why people immigrated to America on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Transportation Technology word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Transportation Technology word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Transportation Technology word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this transportation technology puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our technology and society unit. The kids could name cars and planes but had no idea what words like engine, propeller, or navigation meant when we talked about how vehicles work. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like engine, propeller, wheel, navigation, GPS, signal, track, fuel, electric, and speed. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the transportation technology vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether GPS uses satellites or just maps. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple car, plane, and satellite drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one transportation technology that helps people stay safe on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
