Conjunctions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Conjunctions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Conjunctions word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this conjunctions puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our grammar unit. The kids could write sentences but didn't know how to join two ideas together without starting a new sentence every time. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like and, but, or, so, for, nor, yet, because, although, while, whereas, since, unless, until, if, and when. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the connecting words finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "so" is a conjunction or an adverb. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple linking chain and bridge drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write two short sentences and join them with a conjunction on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Winter Vacation Writing Challenge | Growth Mindset & Seasonal Fun!

Winter Vacation Writing Challenge | Growth Mindset & Seasonal Fun!
ELA, Holiday & Seasonal, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Winter vacation is a time filled with adventures outdoors, seasonal foods, and special celebrations. This writing activity supports writers as they take on the cognitively heavy task of writing a story, while supporting them with fun scaffolding to motivate them! Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders who enjoy sharing stories, but also supports reluctant writers. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and characters in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

Types of Plants word search, scramble and crossword ⭐I made this types of plants puzzle set for my 3rd graders during our life science unit. The kids could name a few flowers but got lost when I tried teaching them about ferns, mosses, and conifers. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like flowering, conifer, fern, moss, algae, herb, shrub, tree, and seed. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they mix up "conifer" and "flowering" sometimes. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple leaf and flower drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one plant type and draw a tiny example on the back. The kids actually enjoy these.

The kids knew the brain was in charge but had no idea about nerves, the spinal cord, or how messages travel through the body. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like brain, spinal cord, nerve, neuron, impulse, signal, sense, touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing, reflex, react, and control center. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. Grade 7 Civics and Government word search, scramble and crossword puzz

Grade 7 Civics and Government word search, scramble and crossword puzz
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Grade 7 Civics and Government word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this civics and government puzzle set for my 7th graders during our social studies unit. The kids knew the three branches from earlier grades, but they had no idea about the deeper vocabulary like federalism, checks and balances, or judicial review when we started looking at how the government actually functions. They also kept mixing up the roles of the House and Senate and didn't understand what a veto does. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like constitution, amendment, federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances, executive, legislative, judicial, veto, override, impeach, judicial review, bill, law, and citizens . I also included a few like "civics" and "responsibility" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "federalism" (it's a tricky one) or whether a veto and an override are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a branches of government diagram nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the structure and the checks . I added a couple simple building and scale drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 7th through 8th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one check the president has on Congress on the back. The kids actually ask for these now. Focus the review with these branches of government vocabulary puzzles .

Women in Leadership word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Women in Leadership word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Women in Leadership word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this women in leadership puzzle set for my 4th graders during our biography unit and Women's History Month. The kids could name a few leaders like Rosa Parks and Malala, but they had no idea about the breadth of leadership roles women hold—from presidents and CEOs to ambassadors and governors. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like president, CEO, leader, influencer, visionary, pioneer, strategic, inspirational, empowering, resilient, inclusive, collaborative, decisive, confident, entrepreneur, ambassador, governor, senator, manager, innovator, and heroine . I also added key terms like "advocate," "mentor," and "role model" because the kids kept asking how leaders support others and what it takes to become one . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "resilient" and "persistent" mean the same thing, or what a "visionary" actually does. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've read short biographies of leaders like Kamala Harris, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Malala Yousafzai . I added a couple simple star, podium, and handshake drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one leadership word from the puzzles and write a sentence about what it means to be a leader on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

ELL Academic Vocabulary Grade 3 word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this academic vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd graders during our reading and writing block. The kids could do the work but had no idea what words like "analyze," "summarize," or "infer" meant when I gave them directions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like analyze, summarize, infer, evaluate, explain, describe, compare, contrast, identify, locate, define, state, retell, and support. I also included a few key content-area terms like main idea, detail, sequence, cause, effect, and fact/opinion because they show up in every subject . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the direction words finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between "summarize" and "retell." The crossword I use for partners or as a warm-up before a lesson. I added a couple simple checkmark, pencil, and book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 4th grade, especially for English learners who need extra exposure to academic language. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word and use it in a sentence on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
