Authors Purpose word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Authors Purpose word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this author's purpose puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our reading comprehension unit. The kids could read a book but had no idea why the author wrote it or how to tell the difference between persuade, inform, and entertain. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like persuade, inform, entertain, explain, describe, purpose, author, reader, opinion, fact, story, article, ad, convince, and teach. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help PIE (persuade, inform, entertain) finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a textbook is meant to inform or persuade. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple pie chart and book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one book that entertains and one that informs on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

The Little Skeleton Who Wanted to Be Scared Reading Passage -Halloween
ELA, Reading, Writing, Holiday & Seasonal, Halloween, Holidays, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Writing Prompts, Activities, Centers
The Little Skeleton Who Wanted to Be Scary Reading Passage is a hilarious tale about a skeleton who just can't seem to get the whole "scary" thing right. No matter how hard he tries, people keep mistaking him for a friendly little guy, so much for being a terrifying creature of the night! This humorous story shows that sometimes it’s better to make friends than frighten them. The reading passage comes with fun activities that’ll keep kids laughing and learning. Activity 1 asks two comprehension questions to see if readers were paying attention (or too busy giggling). Activity 2 challenges them to match four words from the story with their meanings, because even skeletons need a vocab boost! Activity 3 gets into grammar, where students fill in the blanks with the right words (because skeletons don’t have time for bad grammar). Activity 4 is another fill-in-the-gap challenge, testing how well students can keep the story flowing. And last but not least, Activity 5 lets students unleash their inner artists by drawing a picture of what they think a “friendly skeleton” looks like. Spoiler alert: it’ll probably look more adorable than scary! Just don’t be surprised if they give him a smile. Enjoy!

Math and Technology Crossover word search, scramble and crossword puzz
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Math and Technology Crossover word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this math and technology crossover puzzle set for my 4th and 5th graders during our STEM integration unit. The kids could do math on paper and use tech tools, but they had no idea what words like spreadsheet, calculator, or graph meant when we talked about using computers to solve math problems. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like calculator, spreadsheet, graph, data, program, code, algorithm, equation, formula, chart, table, computer, screen, keyboard, and solve. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the crossover vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether using a calculator is "cheating" or just a tool. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after a technology-integrated math lesson. I added a couple simple computer, calculator, and graph drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one way technology helps them do math faster on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Life Science word search, scramble and crossword puzzle activity ⭐ I made this butterfly life cycle puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our insect unit. The kids were mixing up "chrysalis" and "cocoon" constantly so I needed something low stress that still got them using the words. It has a word search, a word scramble, and a tiny crossword. Nothing fancy. ⭐ The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page (I put all three keys on one page to save paper). The scramble is the one they struggle with the most which is actually good because then they start asking each other for help. Word search works great for early finishers or after lunch quiet time. ⭐ Grades 2 through 4 mostly. Print and go. Sometimes I have them draw each stage on the back of the word search. Takes zero prep and they actually stay busy longer than I expect.

Grade 2 Animal Habitats word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Grade 2 Animal Habitats word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this measurement puzzle set for my 2nd graders during our math unit. The kids could use a ruler but kept mixing up words like inch, foot, and yard, and had no idea what words like length, width, or height meant when we started measuring objects in the classroom. They also couldn't tell the difference between "longer" and "taller." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using measurement words like length, height, width, inch, foot, yard, centimeter, ruler, yardstick, measure, compare, longer, shorter, taller, and estimate. I also threw in a few like "tape measure" and "weight" because they kept coming up when we measured things around the room . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "centimeter" or whether a foot is longer than a yard (it's not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a ruler and a yardstick nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the difference between the units . I added a couple simple ruler, pencil, and book drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers measure something in the room and write the measurement on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
