This Journey Through South Korea (level r) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: A Journey Through South Korea Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Social Studies (Geography/Culture) Primary Topic: South Korea’s geography, traditions, and modern innovation Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): R What This Book Teaches Best How geography shapes a country , describing South Korea as a peninsula with seas on three sides and mountains across much of the land. The name of this product is "multiplications printables /flashcards">flashcards from 1 to 12" - Brief introduction of the product: As is known, mathematics is a science of daily use, so it is essential that our children and/or students (future adults) must acquire an adequate foundation in this beautiful science from a young age. It is therefore the responsibility of teachers, the guides of knowledge, to seek for our students and/or children in charge, the best mathematics resources so that children see or have a positive perspective on mathematics. For this reason, on this occasion I have designed this fabulous mathematical resource that contains 48 fantastic worksheets where children must select the answers to the multiplications from 1 to 12, all with a theme that I am sure will attract the attention of your students at first glance. . Below I am going to present some details of this resource: - You can use it in children who have already advanced their knowledge of addition and subtraction and who already need to know and perform their first multiplication exercises. - This resource contains 12 fabulous pages, on each page there are 4 printables /flashcards">flashcards . Each page addresses the topic of a number from the multiplication table, that's why there are 12 pages. - This resource is used to practice multiplications from 1 to 12. - This educational resource has also been designed in A4 format, in PDF so that it is much more suitable when printing. - Now, to apply it in your classroom, you have 2 ways: the first way is for your children to simply cut out the cards, or for you to simply give them the printed sheets and they mark the correct answer, they can use a pencil, pen, etc. The other way is to cut them out, laminate them, laminate them using tape or a laminate machine, and then your students use tweezers to select the correct answer and place it on top. This would be the most ideal and correct way for your children to play with these cards. Enjoy it!

Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: The Invisible World of Gases Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Physical Science Primary Topic: Gas properties, particles, and everyday examples Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): N What This Book Teaches Best Explains matter as anything with mass that takes up space, and names three states: solid, liquid, and gas. Describes gas molecules as tiny particles that move fast, spread far apart, and bounce off one another. Teaches key gas properties: gases have no fixed shape , take the shape of a container, and can spread out to fill a space. Connects temperature to motion by explaining that when a gas gets hot, molecules move faster, spread out, and the gas expands . Gives real-world examples of gases and their effects, including air pressure, pumping air into a tire, water vapor/steam, and helium balloons. Learning Goals Identify what the text says matter is and give the three states of matter named in the book. Describe how gas molecules move and how they are spaced compared to molecules in a solid. Explain what the book says happens to gas molecules when a gas gets hot. Explain how gas can be compressed and how that creates high pressure in a tire. Describe how water can change into water vapor and how steam forms when it cools. Use text details to explain why a helium balloon floats unless it is tethered. Key Vocabulary From the Text molecules — tiny particles that make up a gas. mixture — different things combined together. pressure — a pushing force on something. compressed — squeezed into a smaller space. atmosphere — a thick layer of gases around Earth. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What do you think might be in the air around us even when we can’t see it? Comprehension questions: What does the text say matter is? How does the text explain what happens to gas molecules when a gas gets hot? Why does a balloon filled with helium float up unless it is tethered? Printing Tips 1. Promises to Keep – Socratic Seminar Questions
ELA, Literature, Grade 5, Worksheets & Printables, Novel Studies
Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America by Sharon Robinson tells the story of how her father, baseball legend Jackie Robinson, became the first Black player to enter the major leagues. The story recounts the obstacles and barriers Mr. Robinson faced as he courageously stood against racism and bigotry to bring about a monumental change in American culture. This PDF file of Socratic Seminar & Discussion Questions contains thirty-seven carefully crafted queries on thirteen pages. The first twelve pages pose short-answer questions taken from the text, while the thirteenth page contains a summary question which requires the students to give a more detailed response. All of the questions can be used to facilitate in-class discussions and understanding about the novel. The Socratic Seminar & Discussion Questions can also be used for other purposes, such as homework assignments or classroom quizzes , and the pages will help teachers gauge whether or not the students have read and understand the specific sections of the novel. It is my hope that these Socratic Seminar & Discussion Questions will be helpful to teachers who present Sharon Robinson’s Promises to Keep to their students, and I believe that as the students read the story they will find that the questions help them develop critical thinking skills in English and Language Arts. Common Core Standards for Reading and Writing for grade five follows immediately after the Answer Key. If you find that these questions are helpful to your students, please contact me with the names of other novels that you use in class and I will see if I could write questions for those books.
