This design your own t-shirt activity asks students in grades 3 and 4 to turn an idea into a picture. They start by choosing an idea, such as an interest, a message or a group they belong to, and writing it in a short line. A brief example shows the connection: a leaf can show a love of nature.
Most of the page is a large blank T-shirt outline, about 7 by 5 inches, where students design with shapes, lines, colors and optional words. Below it, a short writing box asks how one part of the design shows the idea, so students explain a deliberate choice rather than just decorate. The page works on its own for an art lesson, a class display or a get-to-know-you activity.
