Fairy Tale Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this fairy tale vocabulary puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our fairy tale unit. The kids knew stories like Cinderella and Snow White but had no idea what words like prince, princess, or villain meant in the context of fairy tales. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like prince, princess, king, queen, castle, dragon, witch, wizard, fairy, magic, spell, curse, villain, hero, and happily ever after. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the fairy tale terms finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a dragon is always a villain. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple crown, castle, and magic wand drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name their favorite fairy tale character on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
