Korean Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Korean culture vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our global studies unit. The kids knew K-pop and maybe kimchi, but they had no idea what words like hanbok, doljanchi, or Chuseok meant when we started learning about South Korea's rich traditions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using key cultural vocabulary. I included everyday words like kimchi, hanbok, and taekwondo, as well as terms for holidays like Seollal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok (harvest festival) . I made sure to add doljanchi (the first birthday celebration) and baekil (the 100-day celebration) because the kids are always amazed that babies celebrate their first 100 days . I also threw in popular food words like bibimbap, bulgogi, and tteokbokki since they keep coming up when we talk about Korean food .

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "Chuseok" or whether "doljanchi" is a birthday party or something else. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've looked at pictures of Korean food, clothing, and holidays. I added a couple simple hanbok, kimchi, and temple drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word from the puzzle and draw a picture of it on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
