Stagecraft Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this stagecraft vocabulary puzzle set for my 4th graders during our theater unit. The kids loved being on stage but had no idea what words like backstage, fly system, or follow spot meant when we talked about what happens behind the scenes. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like stage, backstage, wings, fly system, curtain, set, prop, costume, lighting, sound, follow spot, spotlight, headset, stage manager, cue, blackout, trap door, and crew. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the stagecraft vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or drama class. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the fly system actually flies actors or just scenery. The crossword I use for partners or as a review before a school play. I added a couple simple stage curtain and spotlight drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one behind-the-scenes theater job on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
