Kindergartners and first graders will get a ton of practice reading AM words with these fluency activities. All target words are part of the AM word family. Students will practice reading these CVC words in isolation as well as in context of a simple sentence or passage. What is Included: Word Fluency Strips - These three strips only contain AM words in isolation. Students will practice reading the words on the strips until words are mastered. Sentence Strips - The sentence strips contain AM words in the context of simple sentences. Sentence Fluency Worksheet - Students will read the simple sentences then pick one sentence to illustrate in the box at the bottom of the worksheet. Reading Comprehension Passage - Students will read the story containing AM words three times then answer two comprehension questions and draw a picture to illustrate the story. Sentence Pyramids - There are eight sentence pyramids where students will read each sentence, adding a new word on each line. How to Use: These activities word very well in a reading or phonics center for students to work on independently or with a partner. They make great small group activities. With this decodable book, you will practice reading a short story that contains CVC words and simple sight words. Kindergartners and first graders can gain practice reading words that contain the CVC words from the AN word family. What is Included: There is one emergent reader titled "Dan," which includes one cover page and five pages for students to color and read. How to Use: Students will color each page of the book, cut the pages apart, and then assemble the book, making sure the cover page is on top. The subsequent pages can be placed in any order and still be read with meaning. Use a stapler to attach the pages together. The repetitive nature of each page allows students to have success with reading and gives them extra practice with target words! This game will help your children to learn to hear the sounds ‘ar’ and ‘or’ in words and to read words containing these sounds. This game is black and white for eco-printing at home, or to send home. A colour version can be found in the Lilibette's Resources store. Who is it for: Children who are learning the digraphs ar and or. Those children working in Phase 3 of Letters and Sounds Those children working in Speed Set 2 of RWI. Who can use the ar/or game? Teachers, parents, private tutors - anyone who needs it! How to make the game Print out pages 4 to 9, on card. Cut out the picture cards (pages 6 - 8). Cut up the ar/or cards (page 9). Write ‘ar’ on the back of one baseboard (pages 4/5) and ‘or’ on the back of the other. Write ‘ar’ or ‘or’ as appropriate on the backs of the picture cards. Find a bag or small box to put the small letter ar/or cards in. How to play the game This is a game for 2 players. It is best if an adult plays with each child individually first and then when each child in a pair is confident, they can play in together. The game can be played with the picture and word cards alone, without the ar/or cards - as a simple matching game. This is how it has been designed to be played: Take a baseboard each. This will decide who is collecting ‘ar’ pictures and ‘or’ pictures. Choose 6 ar and 6 or cards (you can choose different pictures each time you play). Scatter the picture cards picture side up. Take it in turns to take an ‘ar’/’or’ letter card from the bag/box. If the player with the ‘ar’ baseboards picks an ‘ar’ card, s/he may choose a picture with the ar sound in. Likewise with ‘or’. Players may only turn the picture card over to check that they are correct. If not, the picture card is replaced. The winner is the first to fill his/her card. Do: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your go and invite your pupil’s help, so they get even more practice. Look at the cards that are left. What sound do they have in them? May Write the Room Literacy Center and World Wall Cards

My student's favorite center to do for word work is always the Write the Room center . I give a small group of 3-5 students a clip board and the "word hunt" paper. They walk around the room with their board, paper, and a pencil and try to find all 24 words that I put scattered around the classroom. They always feel such a sense of pride when they find all 24 words! This set of words is themed for the month of MAY. There are word cards for Mother's Day, Memorial Day, gardening, bugs, grilling, and weather associated with April. I like to print the cards in color and laminate them for durability (it also keeps them ready to use for the next year). I hope your kiddos enjoy this center as much as my own students do! You can also use these cards on your word wall for your students to reference when doing writing activities. There are lots of times during the month of MAY that my students ask me how to spell certain words and (now with these cards) I just tell them to go to the word wall to find it! When using them for the word wall I put magnetic tab on the back of each laminated card so students can easily find, borrow, and put back my word wall words (that are on a magnetized white board surface).

Emotions Alphabet or Number Hunt Game The Emotions Alphabet or Number Hunt Game is an engaging teaching resource designed to enhance active learning during circle time or whole group lessons. This tool fits well in the curriculum of preschool, kindergarten as well as grades one through three. This effective learning tool encourages students to identify emotions along with numbers from 0-10 or 0-20, letter names, and/or sounds based on the card sets distributed. All you need is a printed template (included) conveniently cut out and laminated for durability and stored in zip lock bags. How Does The Game Work? Cards depicting various emotions are placed into a pocket chart with a letter or number hidden behind each card. A provided song guides the class towards finding the target letter. To enrich their learning experience, students can vocalize the sound of that letter, associate it with objects that start with the same letter or draw its shape using hand movements in air.
